Let Zih Fun & Games Begin

Now that septiHambre is upon us, the usual fun and games of the slow season begin as dirtbag amantes de lo ajeno start preying upon the decent hard-working citizens. This morning one of the borrachines who spend their days drinking tequila and their nights stealing turtle eggs tried to assault a worker of one of the posadas near our home. A sharp shout by my wife from our window and a chase with hammer in hand by the angry hotel owner drove the would-be assailant straight into the arms of police. One of the street sweepers said another assailant tried to rob one of her compañeros. So for those who live here double-check all your locks and potential points of entry to your property, and be sure to pay attention to your surroundings when walking about. We go through this every year, but as the population grows it also gets a little worse each year, and being as our local police force is barely working I expect the wannabe thieves will be a bit more emboldened than usual. I have my trusty machete ready among my bag of tricks in case I have to play with the dirtbags.

After a cooling light rain most of yesterday we awoke to a refreshing morning where everything seemed cleansed by the rain and the people seemed a bit more animated to be out and about after spending most of yesterday indoors. The sun is once again drifting southward along our morning horizon as the days grow shorter and we come into the heart of the hurricane season. Never a dull moment in paradise!
