Heads Up

A note in today's news lauds a local regidora from our city hall for taking donations from foreigners from Wisconsin and delivering plastic bags of dispensas to folks from mostly squatter communities. This does not sit well with much of the local population, with the exception of squatters of course. As I have endeavored to point out time and again, the reason there are so many squatters is because slimebag politicians want them there to use as cannon fodder for electoral purposes, and time after time it appears well-meaning foreigners are taken advantage of by these slimebag politicians to help them do their dirty work buying and inducing votes for their campaigns, which is how we end up with the terrible caliber of politicians we keep ending up with.

While I'm sure ALL of us in Zihuatanejo are grateful for the warm-hearted generosity of everyone to help the less fortunate, especially our foreign residents and visitors, PLEASE avoid our politicians like the plague, including the ones in office. I don't care if you want to build a school or an old folks home or a hospital. Your good intentions will end up being counterproductive for the community if you involve yourselves or your charitable organizations with politicians. They only have their own interests in mind. They have no intent of helping anyone rise out of poverty unless they think they can make more money from them. This all started when foreigners helped build the Netzahuacóyotl school, not knowing they were helping squatters meet a requirement for having their land invasion eventually "regularized". This opened a floodgate of land invasions, all seeking the same benefits and hoping to make "friends" with generous foreigners, and in less than three years we went from around 21 invasions to around 54. Now it's election season once again and locals are already warning of pending land invasions while one of the leading candidates is already promising to "regularize" stolen lands. Law abiding citizens are not happy at the prospect, nor are we happy with the numerous problems our taxes pay to fix that are caused by these land thieves, such as the increasing amount of trash on the beach after each heavy rain or the increased flooding downtown from all the roads being built and all the green spaces being lost on our hillsides. Even the water at Las Gatas is suffering the fallout from all the runoff. So please, heed my warnings. If you want to donate to some cause or help some community, ASK first. I can orient you or find someone who can. Help us rescue Zihuatanejo from the mire the politicians are dragging us into.

Gracias y saludos.
