Advice on surge protectors please

I have a desktop PC and I wanted surge protection and some time to shut it down in case of a power failure. Bought a UPS at Commercial Mexicana, not large capacity but in case of power failure It give me about 20 minutes to do a normal manual shutdown. It has surge protection also.

In U.S. I had a fancy model that had surge protection and also a USB input that would shut down the PC during a power failure after saving all my work.

Personal opinion: If you want only surge protection you already have protection if you power cable has a "box" between the AC plug and the input cable to the PC. For further protection you can buy a simple plug in power strip with surge protector built in. OK if you don't leave the computer unattended but if you have a PC that needs needs sometime to shut down then you need a UPS. With laptop your internal battery will hold you long enough to do a manuel shutdown.
