From Sea to Shining Zih

Although the surf's been up a bit from the passing storms, it's nothing like it was during the recent mar de fondo events. Water taxis are back to making their normal runs to Playa Las Gatas and Isla Ixtapa though there are hardly any tourists.

The coasts of Quintana Roo as well as Florida and the Caribbean islands are expecting more sargassum weed. Parts of the west coast of Florida are dealing again with the toxic blue-green algae. The Gulf Coast around the mouth of the Mississippi River is expected to have the largest dead zone ever this summer thousands of miles wide thanks to human activity upriver. I keep thinking all those calamities might translate into more tourism for Zihuatanejo, but unfortunately I still don't see any promotion for our region on any media. A damn shame. Places like Key West and St. Croix can afford to make excellent commercials seen in many U.S. States and parts of Canada as well as on major international satellite and cable TV channels. No reason why we can't have an ad playing in the same venues.

Cloudy days are for meditating on the seashore.

This was taken last evening at twilight. It was dark when we left the beach but floodlights were lit bright and the work continued. They just might get this thing finished on time.
