LuceZIHta en el Horizonte

Zihuatanejo officially registered "only" 111 active cases of Covid-19 today. Here as in the rest of Mexico we appear to be on the downward slope of the latest wave. Not out of the woods yet, but there's a little glow on the horizon.

Pretty much all of Guerrero except for La Tierra Caliente, La Costa Grande and La Costa Chica are scheduled to receive vaccines for the 30-39añeros this week, so I'll guess it'll be our turn next week, though I believe the 40-49añeros are also awaiting their second dose.

The work on the remaining section of the Paseo del Pescador seems to be progressing painfully slow. Merchants there have not only suffered losses from the pandemic, but also from the so-called remodeling. A damn shame to see that the government removed the beautiful decades-old bougainvillea that was in the alleyway by the restaurant-bar La Angustina. A total lack of respect by the local government for the people who actually LIVE here, because I know that beautiful bougainvillea was much appreciated by its neighbors as well as by many of us who pass by there daily. Trying to pretend that Zihuatanejo is something it's not is a recipe for disaster that I've seen play out in other tourist destinations.

Another picture postcard perfect day today even though it was cloudy much of the day. The clouds kept the temps down, and there was a nice balmy breeze that made for a perfect siesta time. Sleeping under a sheet remains optional at night. ;-)
