carmelita's

I had heard of Carmelita's restaurant before and thought it was on this board, but I cannot find any reference to it now.

So just want to say that today we had lunch today at Carmelita's which is located next to La Papa Loca. It was wonderful and I can't recommend it highly enough. A place we will visit again soon. I had grilled bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese. Yum!!

The owner and her son do an outstanding job. Clean, excellent service, delicious food, great presentation, very pleasing, polite and professionally run. They can be proud of themselves.

Go. You won't be disappointed. Note, however, that it is open for lunch but not in the evening.

Amen! Amen! Amen! Carmelita's is what every other Mexican restaurant wants to be. Authentic, not expensive and perfectly done in every way!!

Ditto that, one of our favorites in Zihua. Food is aways top notch, the staff is friendly, service is excellent. If you have not been there, give it a try and you will not be disappointed!!

Mexican's don't seem to be too fond of vegetables on the whole, but their squash are to die for.

Totally agree, best Mexican restaurant in Zihuatanejo, great food and very nice people. Rick Bayless said it was the best Mexican restaurant in Zihuatanejo. Closes at around 4:30 - 5:00 so you have to miss the afternoon at the beach but worth it.

Wonderful food. Sunday have the tongue. Wow! You will be speechless.

Ask for "un poco de todo vegetariano." What I usually end up with is a sampler; for instance: a taste of the flor de calabaza dish (squash flowers); a nopal (cactus) combo; verdulagas (tangy greens) and calabacitas (a squash dish), served with frijoles and guacamole and tortillas. The also have other things such as requeson, (a cheese dish) and I think a potato dish, which I don't usually ask for because I love that green veggies so much. Creatively cooked and beautifully presented. It is so good. My husband says they make the best omelet he has had anywhere. Order a pitcher of watermelon juice, you can get a "water" or, if you are willing to pay the big bucks, ($100 pesos - well worth it if you've ever done this yourself) they will make a whole pitcher of pure water melon juice for you - fantastic! Carmela, her son, her, daughter, her husband the whole family make you feel as if they have been waiting for you and the staff treat you like family too. Just love this place.

This is such a great place and others apparently agree. I'm wondering why it doesn't appear on Zihuarob's list of restaurants?

I can't figure out where it is located? Near the pier? Near the downtown central market? We would like to go there today for breakfast/lunch!
