Alternative Accommodations in Zihuatanejo

by Ray, Chicago, IL USA, Friday, August 10, 2012, 22:25 (281 days ago)

Just returned from a two month stay in Zihuatanejo. This was my 10th or 11th time in Zihua, my favorite Mexican destination. I traveled solo. I usually stay in the Playa La Madera area (Hotel Irma, Bungalows LaMadera, Casa Sun & Moon, Villas Miramar)for the convenience of being right on the beach as well as being able to walk to Centro, day or night. For this extended trip, however, I needed to save money. So, I investigated longer term rental options and discovered a nice little one bedroom apartment that, while not on the beach, was still within walking distance to Centro, Mercado, Cinco de Mayo, etc.--about 5-6 blocks from Playa Principal. I so enjoyed my stay there that I promised the owner, Karen, that I'd share some information about her place on this message board upon my return to Chicago.

As for the accommodations, the property (a house)is neat, clean and comfy but not luxurious. Also, it is NOT located in the more touristy areas of Zihuatanejo (something I actually enjoyed). The neighborhood is working class. The property is located right off the main drag--near the intersection of beginning of Cinco de Mayo and Ave. Morelos (that's the main road coming into Zihua from Airport). It is quite safe--authentic Mexico. There are actually two one-bedroom apartments (separate entrances)owned/managed by Karen who lives in the upstairs quarters at the property. The price is very reasonable. Besides good security and privacy, the amenities include kitchen/living room combo, two double beds in the bedroom, A/C (bedroom only), Wi-Fi, cable TV, private bathroom with shower/hot water, coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, dishes and utensils, large bottled water dispenser (first one free--12 pesos for refills).

This place is ideal for longer term stays for solo travelers or independent couples looking for good, economical, and secure accommodations but still close to everything. Karen is a very personable woman and a great host who's very solicitous of her renters' needs. If you're interested in knowing more about the apartment, availability, and rental price, please contact Karen via e-mail: casakaren007@yahoo.com. I enjoyed my stay there. You will too.
