The Hotel Tax Rate is currently 3 %; some Bord Members already mentioned a charge of 19 %; as the actual VAT rate is 16 % I can only imagine that some rentors took both taxes together and are showing a total of 19 %.

For the hotel I was looking at, the 19% tax was in addition to the nightly rate.

Yes, but look carefully at quoted rates--they often include the tax. But look most carefully for the ones that don't!

I've done some searching, but am not having much success. What is the rate for hotel tax in Zihuatanejo? One hotel site I looked at said 19%. Yikes! That's even more than Florida and New Orleans.
