John, I have seen them for at least the last 6 years or so. Not often and I don't remember exactly as I am here each year. I see other whales more often.

I saw a mother? and baby orca while fishing offshore a few years back. I believe it was in November, if that matters. The captain said that was a first for him, and he is one of the main panga captains in the area.

Yes, it is rare, but I have also seen them when out fishing. Only problem was I was alone and never had a camera when I had that and other whale experiences. It was after seeing things like this that I actually made the effort to lug along an old 35mm (this was in the days before digital was the thing) but only saw normal stuff like dolphins and sailfish. You know.

I came across a couple of recent videos I thought y'all might enjoy.

This video is of a pod of orcas as they accompany a sportfishing boat about 30 miles out in front of Zihuatanejo. An uncommon but not unusual experience here.

This one shows a rare encounter with a whale shark. This is also a very infrequent but not unusual experience to have here.
