Problem With Aduana part 2 (reply)

Danny, I believe what Scott was referring to is that if you have dual nationality and you are in Mexico then you will be treated legally as a Mexican, not as a Canadian, which makes driving the car of a foreign tourist illegal for you. I know it's a dumb law but it is the law.

Does your friend speak Spanish? Is anyone helping him?

I recommend that your friend obtain the services of a lawyer. I highly recommend the services of Lic. Lucas Nava Brito here in Zihuatanejo for a matter like this. His contact info can be found on my Professional Services page.

Problem With Aduana part 2 (reply)

Thank you for your help just to say I am from montreal Born in Quebec Anglophone, but thanks to my DAD my mom is Mexican so I can say that I have the best of two worlds LOL. But what I would like to say is that the S.A.T. in Acapulco is not willing to had over the car to the owner he went to Acapulco today 16th and they did not give him a straight answer (a Toyota Tacoma 2002) to what He needs to do. Something was said from the P.G.R. (M.P.federal) in Zihua for them to hold on to the car. So now He is on his way back.....

Problem With Aduana and Imported Car. (reply)

However, YOU cannot drive your friend's imported car! That is definitely illegal

From Mexican Customs:

That says a foreigner with the same migratory status (resident outside of Mexico) is authorized to drive the vehicle, and implies they are authorized to do this without the importer of the vehicle on board. That is implied because the second sentence says those not authorized to drive it must travel with the importer on board, which implies that those who are authorized (listed in the first sentence - Mexican citizen family resident abroad, and foreigners) do not need to have them aboard.

In other words, if he is not a Mexican citizen, then this sounds like corruption plain & simple. However, he said he is "Canadian/Mexican", and usually if you are a citizen of a country then you get treated like a citizen while there, and shouldn't be returning as a foreigner. But if he just means he is ethnically Mexican, then he should be ok to drive it, based on the text above, which is nearly identical to what I remember actually being printed on the back of the car permit hologram document they give you.

Problem With Aduana and Imported Car. (reply)

Agree- Agustin knows his stuff. However, YOU cannot drive your friend's imported car! That is definitely illegal and yes, the car would have to be picked up by the owners- they certainly would not give it back to you to drive. Only the owner, spouse, and a couple more IMMEDIATE family members can drive an imported vehicle...unless the owner is in the car WITH you.

Problem With Aduana and Imported Car.

Hello Everyone I have a question about Aduana Fm3 and the legal status of a car. Two weeks ago I was detained for Driving My friends car (Federales de Caminos) I am a Canadian/Mexican they did not want to negotiate and were asking too much (mordida) so they took me and the car to the Ministerio Publico Federal (PGR) near the IMSS. they said they had to detain me for 24h, My wife and friends called the Canadian Consulate and all went well after the 24h they said that the S.A.T. has nothing against me BUT for me to get out a (mordida) was given. The car they said needed to be recovered by the owner So he came down, they said the car was not Legal in the Country, So we went to Lazaro Cardenas with Aduana and Banjercito they saw all the papers and said there was nothing wrong and No penalty to pay. But the M.P.F said they will send the car to Acapulco. What can be done? has any one gone through this? Thank you all for your Help.
