I met Owen there in March.
There were a couple of parties staying in two of the cabanas at that time, and the bar was definitely open, as was the kitchen, as they were eating lunch. I think Rob's take on the current situation is likely right on. Late fall would be a more likely time to get in touch re accommodations.

Hi Jeff, thanks for your interest in my place. Rumors about my death and the demise of my Zihuatanejo Beach Retreat are highly exaggerated. Both of us are alive and well, albeit subdued and empty. Both of us have been recently renovated and repaired. Therefore, even though we are oldest living gringo relics in the entire bay, we are still going strong and open for business!

& Hummingbird Treehouse (reply)

I quite enjoyed my week there last month. I am not good at posting pictures but I'll get them up here some day. Two floors, open air, deck, bathroom (enclosed) eating area, sink/fridge/stove, hammock and couches on 1st floor; bed with mosquito netting & hammock on 2nd floor. It is a bit of a treck up to the places. I recommend backpacks as opposed to suitcases. $375 for the week!

Owen's place (reply)

Yes, I have e-mailed. The lack of mention of his bungalows when I search for information and the circumstance about how he wants payment for the bungalow has me questioning the authenticity. I want to come at Christmas and don't want to end up without a roof over my head. I hoped your message board might give me some info about the place.

There are probably more helpful messages about Owen's place in the older Message Board Archives than here on the newer version of the forum that I began only a year and a half ago. The Site Search Engine in the top middle of the page may be able to help you.

Christmas is a long ways off; and Owen, while extremely healthy for his age as far as I know, isn't a young man. I'd at least wait until the end of the rainy season (Nov. 15) before making reservations there.

Zihuatanejo Beach retreat - Las Gatas beach (reply)

Don't know for sure if he is there. He is certainly the name on the contact e-mail within the website. The website also has a link to go to Owen's personal site about his books. My problem is that there is not a lot I can find about the accomodations. I prefer rustic...but other than the website - I can't find anyone that can tell me if it is even really a true place to stay. Any help would be appreciated.

Zihuatanejo Beach retreat - Las Gatas beach (reply)

Has anyone stayed at the Zihuatanejo Beach retreat on Las Gatas beach? What was your experience? I have been told it is owned by Owen Lee. Not a whole lot of information on it though. I have seen some links with Owen and Las Gatas Beach Club. Also in another thread about Owen selling to someone. Any info would be great.
Thanks

I walked all around the property a month ago and it's difficult to know if it's open or derelict. There were signs in front of a couple of the cabanas noting a 350 peso/night charge, but there was no one around, and nothing to prevent me from walking in and out of several of them. All were very basic and pretty rundown, (in my humble opinion). The bar looked like it hasn't served a drink in years.....but lots of Mexican bars and restaurants often look abandoned and out of business, only to miraculously open again each night.
