Last year staying at our hotel in Bloomington we were talking with a older couple. We both talked about where we were headed. Sure enough they had been to Z a few years prior. That's when Corkey began to tell us about his experience para sailing. Same story the boat wouldn't start leaving him hanging over some trees. He got lucky a bunch of guys ran out & pushed the boat into deeper water. It's a good thing he was such a easy going guy.

a parasailing is being brought in for a landing. The usual approach is to let the wind/breeze carry im in over the palm trees and then the boat pulls away from the beach until he is over the landing pad and stops.

Now picture: The boat brings him in and the breeze puts him in over the palm trees-structures=flagpoles, etc. Just as the boat starts to pull him back out to landing area the boat engine stalls. Ever heard of impaling? Ouch!

We often watch parasailers go up even after dark from our condo at La Casa Que Ve Al Mar. . The only way we can see them take off and land and know they are in the air is catching an image of them in the water mirror surface or against the night sky. They are still busy at neat 7 p.m. most nights. PURE IDIOCY!

As a part-time resident of La Madera I have never seen wild crocs or rabid dogs on that beach, and vendors are rare. Señor Gunnysack, on the other hand, is a welcome sight. Ultraviolet radiation is death on nylon and the 'chutes are just lying there in the sun waiting for the next fool to get hooked up. That, combined with inattentive boat drivers and questionable motor maintenance are a disaster waiting to happen.

I spend some time out in the ocean and always have a small colorful tube which I wave frantically whenever I hear any approaching motor. It is always the jetskiers that comeway too close.I have never had a problem with the parasail boats in Ixtapa, although I have seen many float down into the water when the boat stalled.

One of the problems that could be addressed is that there is no requirement that there be a qualified spotter in the boat, so the driver can spend more time watching where he is going.

On Playa La Ropa a couple of weeks ago a swimmer missed being hit by a boat at speed by one foot. The driver was looking over his shoulder watching the parachute as he approached the beach. Far too close for comfort.

A written complaint on this incident has gone to the authorities.

I must admit though, I have been tempted. It looks like a lot of fun.
