Nice article about the new Xihuacan Site Museum, located in the Soledad de Maciel Archaeological Zone...

I'm inspired to go search out my photos (pre-digital camera) of our visit in 2000 to the site
Thanks for that, S2B. The archaeologist came to visit Lupita and me the day before yesterday, and he assured us that locals are being trained to become guides and to work at the museum, a matter over which several of us had expressed some concern recently resulting in a local newspaper article about our comments here.

How far away from Zihuatanejo is the new museum?
It's about a 40-minute drive, but since distances and directions here are relative and often misleading, please use my Site Search engine to search for "La Chole map" and you should find a Google Earth map that pinpoints La Chole's location precisely.
Would you have ever expected that a local message board could be so influential when you started it? Congratulations!

Influential? Maybe. But at least we got their attention.

Wow! We (netizens I believe the newspaper article called us and of course you mostly) are powerful! A personal visit is indeed a call for celebration.
May we have as much power in other causes.
Nice to get some good news for a change. I'm looking forward to my visit there on Thursday with Wil.

Now I really want to find those photos from 2000 ! The guide(s) and the children of La Chole made all the difference in our experience of seeing the site and the small collection of artifacts...I am so pleased to hear that the locals will continue to be a part of this site that is so much a part of them...blessings to you and Lupita for your positive impact and making a difference. ¡ Abrazos !
Sounds great -- and, from the photo, appears more substantial a facility than I'd imagined from some earlier posts I'd seen. Can't wait to go there.
