I can find no mention or corroboration that Luis Ángel Quintana was injured during the rampage at the Cereso "Las Cruces" in Acapulco.

According to this morning's papers where his family is interviewed, Luis Ángel Quintana Saucedo suffered fractures in both of his arms as well as other wounds, and he is currently recovering in a hospital. We can only wish him much strength and a speedy recovery as well as that he and his wife Ilse are rightfully and quickly liberated from this pathetic excuse for a criminal justice system for crimes they never committed.

Luis and Ilse were arrested in an apartment they rented from the mayor's nephew during an operation by state and federal police to round up armed criminals that had been followed to the building by the police. Luis and Ilse lived on a different floor in the same apartment building and were arrested on completely false charges. In Guerrero prisoners are often fabricated as a source of funding for slimebag public officials in Guerrero's injustice system as their families are extorted for everything in their attempts to liberate their loved ones. The mayor of Zihuatanejo, Lic. Gustavo García Bello, got involved to make sure protocol wasn't followed so that his nephew was quickly released and his nephew's home and apartment building were immediately returned to him, in contrast to how anyone else without influence would've been treated. But apparently the mayor couldn't be bothered to help the musician and his wife who had no firearms and who were in no way linked to the armed criminals who lived in another apartment who had been followed there by the police. We will never forget our mayor's role in this outrageous injustice! This says a lot about him including that, since he isn't from Zihuatanejo, he doesn't share local principles and he doesn't care about local people.

I have followed (although not closely) this story since it began. To a NOB grngo it is unbelievable that in this day in age such a violation of human rights can exist. Are you sure the couple in no way make public comments about someone in power? Or otherwise get too close to the truth? It is very scary to know this type of activity exists in Mexico.

You must've missed the numerous and prolonged protests here including concerts by internationally known artists to raise money for their "legal fund".

The government knows it can outwait the public outrage, that we can't protest forever. They can still threaten, intimidate, harm, disappear and kill people here with impunity, Sydney. This is the same Guerrero as it's always been.

Licenciado Are You SURE?

Follow the bread crumbs.
Over half the people I have snooped into, fraudulently claimed titles of Lic and
Inj.

One was a fraud Injinero from Zopoapan who bilked the local pueblo out of the eqvt of almost $25,000 dlls. To dig a well in soft earth twenty five feet deep, install a three phase electric motor connect to a provided mufa then connect the pump to provided four inch line running up to the big tinaca. His "credenciales" cannot be found at UNAM.

Few things will discredit faster in Mexican society than purported degrees in engineering or law that do not exist. I exposed this fool publicly at a reunion at our ejido. I asked him to guess at the number. Kilopascals of pressure in a column of water fifty meters in height.

Every crook goes too far. Find out where your licenciado got his degree - or not.

Not sure why you post this anecdote of yours here, but just for the record I suggest you look a little deeper into the meaning of licenciado. It isn't just a title for a lawyer. Because of my university degree I am also entitled to use the title licenciado, and wouldn't you know the dumb gringo (now deceased) who spent over 10 years and a million dollars trying to steal my internet business (and lost) screamed to the four winds when I used it because he didn't speak enough Spanish to understand its use. Just sayin'...

May be similar to U.S. when a person signs their name, John Doe, J.D., which leads people to think he is a lawyer. J.D. means he finished law school but doesn't mean he was ever admitted to the Bar.

I notice some people in Mexico use the term Ing., which translates loosely as engineer but can mean much more in Spainish.

I think, therefore I am.

Mexicowanderer, are you suggesting the attorney hired to represent Luis and Ilse is not an attorney? I have no way of knowing, but expect that their families have hired someone reputable. Do you have reason to doubt him or her? Or are you talking about the mayor?

I Am Talking About Your Alcalde

by mexicowanderer, Friday, July 14, 2017, 11:24 (157 days ago) @ Elena S

I damnsure know what Licenciado means. I am a documented E.E. from Stanford. I ran into this Lic BS problem in Mexico many years ago and frankly I am a little tired of dealing with phonies who suffix their name or position with Lic and hide their incompetence or abuse behind it.

It reminds me of the number of ex-Vietnam Huey door gunners, CIA operatives "on vacation" or millionaire Dot.Com miracles who choose to travel "incognito" I have suffered. The latter I can avoid with a smile. The former can hide behind a phony self-declared title and exact abuses primarily against people who fear the individual because of "Lic"

I am not saying the alcalde is a phony. What I am saying is it is possible to check his bonafides. The percentage of falsely represented licenciados I have uncovered provoked me into making this comment.

How to help Luis y Ilse, let's be constructive

by Elena S @, Tacoma WA USA, Friday, July 14, 2017, 12:59 (157 days ago) @ ZihuaRob

We've tried funding an attorney to free them.
I'm going to write to the consul in Seattle which is the Mexican consulate nearest to my home and ask for their help. I encourage everyone to do the same and to contact anyone who either has influence or might know someone who does.
Constructive ideas welcome. This has gone from being an outrageous injustice to a life threatening situation.

Curing the CAUSE is a lot more effective

Than treating the symptoms

IMHO both issues are critical. The health of the victims much more so. But dealing with the CAUSE cannot be ignored.

Best fortune to them and your efforts. I have my hands and wallet over burdened with "issues of stupidity" around here. A six year old was whacked in a marked crosswalk by a drunk who pulled out of a liquor barn 100' distant. The kid looked both ways, saw no cars then according to witnesses the --- ---- roared onto Mex 200. The child has several broken bones and a severe concussion. Transported first to La Mira then transferred to Lazaro Cardenas.

He was chased by locals. Tomorrow is visit the Procuraduria Day. If he loses his shack and the shirt off his back it will be so much the better. He is now in El Bote.

CAUSE! If I have to fund 4 yards of asphalt for a tope and for two signs, then that's exactly what I am going to do.

Again prayers for your poor folks. Impunity is unforgivable. The city should be forced to reimburse donations. Fat chance,

How to help Luis y Ilse, This is what I wrote..

I just sent this. Please write to anyone who is anybody. Someone knows someone who can get them free and the more who speak out the better. It's so awful what has happened to those kids.

To Mr Roberto Dondisch Glowinski, Consul

Saludos,

I am writing on behalf of my friends, the Mexican citizens Luis Ángel Quintana Saucedo and Ilse Elizabeth Ramírez Reyes. They are being held in a prison where the situation has gone from being an outrageous injustice to life threatening. With the outbreak of violence among the prisoners Luis Ángel was beaten and had his arm broken and is now recovering in the hospital.
These hard working citizens of Zihuatanejo, Mx. were simply living in their apartment when the police followed some people with guns, who they did not even know, to their building. Their apartment was not even on the same floor, yet they were awakened in the middle of the night, arrested and taken to an Acapulco prison . This happened in February and they are still deprived of their liberty. They are of good character and without a doubt completely innocent. Despite public protests in their home town of Zihuatanejo and international attention brought by musical legends Rodrigo y Gabriela they have still not been allowed to go home.
I appeal to you for help freeing them from the Acapulco prison, el Centro de Readaptación Social (Cereso), Las Cruces.
Luis Ángel y Ilse Ramírez have many supporters, friends and family asking for their release. Please join us and use your influence to secure their freedom. It might not be in your job description, but you have power and know people who can get things done.
Please help us.

Most sincerely,
Ellen Storm
