Sotavento condos

For the past week or so, during our morning walks on Playa la Ropa, I have noticed a salesperson stationed by the sign that advertises the Sotavento condos. It struck me as kind of odd, since there is no sign of any work being done on the building. It looks the same as it has for years. This morning my curiosity got the better of me, and I stopped to talk with the very personable woman who was sitting there. I began by asking her if any of the units are occupied. She responded that construction will begin in October. She showed me pictures of the "show unit," while explaining that the new units to be constructed will be more modern. She showed me a price sheet, with prices in US dollars starting at roughly $360,000 for a two-bedroom unit. And she said that I could reserve a unit at the listed price by making a $1,000 deposit. I later googled condos for sale Zihuatanejo Sotavento, and located a website that advertises the condos. Words fail me. The claims on that site are completely unrelated to reality.

:megusta:

As are the prices.

I would however consider trading them Straight Up for my Secret Map of where the Jackalopes may be found.

There is only one Map, so they would get an exclusive.

It's SO entertaining!

For the last two years, the male on the beach has been Trevor, a very nice Canadian who would take your thousand dollar (US) fully refundable deposit and assure everyone that construction was going to start in May. He never said what year! Nice guy, he would walk down from somewhere beyond La Ceiba at the south end of La Ropa every morning, returning late afternoon. We know several people who made a deposit and selected their units. We heard great stories about the testing of the structure to test it's integrity, the checking of the rocks below, lots of "checking!"

Wish I had something to sell...

Could I get the names of those fiends who made a deposit? I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I will sell at a really good price!

This not the first time people have made deposits on those units and lost money. During the original make-over of the Sotavento from a hotel to condominiums, there were people who made large deposits and lost a lot of money. It was discussed on this board at the time. Maybe 10 years ago? I don't remember the details. It would be nice to learn that those people got their money back. But I won't be holding my breath.

360K...........now that is laughable. $360k will get you a fully furnished condo in the BVG. With TWICE the amenities and a clean beach and ocean.

I might have mentioned this before however when we were at Intrawest 5 years ago we met a couple from Vancouver who we chummed about with for the week. His speciality was concrete structures (nuclear power plants in particular) Their studio was at the top of one of the buildings overlooking Sotavento. He said he might buy at the right price with the idea of selling a few years later for a profit the concrete is not going to hold up in the long run.

Didn't the prices start at $200,000
way back when the project began?

We discussed having a pool to bet when
they would be completed ... wonder if
anyone thought ten years!!
