Hi!
I read this and immediately googled. This is what I found in terms of location and opening hours: https://www.restaurantekaukan.com/contacto

Photos of the place and food look amazing.

Definitely trying it on our next trip.

Best,

Could that be the old Villa De Selva?

It certainly looks like the same location. We remember Villa de Selva, owned by the son of former Mexican President Echeveria, where the food and atmosphere were superb. We'd go there each year we visited Z. The restaurant even had a section where tejones lived. Waiters fed them bread. We found a closed sign on it about 4 years ago when we walked there from staying at Las Brisas.

Looks expensive & they have portions suitable for a bird. Guess it depends on whether you want quantity or quality?

We have not been there yet but Ricardo, the owner, explained that it was near the beach and part of a new resort/condo development. So certainly not at the old Villa de Selva location.
Regarding Kua Kan, the original restaurant above Madera is now closed. Building is being refurbished as one bedroom condos. Designed by Enrique Zozoya so they should be nice.

Not the old Villa de Selva. It is much further up the road. There is residential building going on, but the area is isolated, especially at night. You can walk/bike to it, but I suspect most are better off cabbing it.
The elevator and bridge are indeed a sight. We went for lunch, but they were closed. Best to check ahead. One reason to go for lunch is that I do not believe there is a view at night - just dark ocean - so I have been told. I have also been told that prices require you to go with a full wallet.

I never left hungry from the Z location. As to price, I felt the original location was reasonable for the quality, view, ambiance, etc. But if your budget is tight and you need massive quantities to fill your belly then there are better choices for that.

Like most of the other fuu fuu restaurants in the area, they will count on people like you to help support them so they can justify having an on site restaurant for their elite boutique hotel customers. Different strokes. Personally, I'd rather support the average local restaurant and their employees than subsidize the life style of some fat cat tourist.

Good on ya! Keep to those places that you are comfortable in. Ya vote with yur dollar.

If you and Baby Mama want to hit the Taco Bar in your ratty shorts and your If It Ain't a Harley It Ain't Shit wife beater every night, why that is your choice!!

That said, I find your comment about fat cat tourists a bit on the silly side. Some like to Dress Up a bit for dinner a couple of times on vacation. If that's what They enjoy, why look down your nose at them?

OK I do admit that I sit in the weeds most of the time gaining knowledge each and every time. Labrat you crack me up! My husband and I will be spending 2 months this year and I have yet to dine in a so called FOO FOO restaurant but I do plan on it this time, just because. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!

Since we stay at Las Brisas, and are Lazy As Hell on vacation, our First Choice for Foo Foo is always Portofino @ Las Brisas.
(other foo foos have closed over the years)

Off property, just for the ambiance (because I am a Casablanca fan!) I like to hit Bogart's @ Krystal. I really like their take on Rick's Cafe Americain.

Food is somewhere between good and "adequate" depending on the dish and the day.

When cravings hit, its off to Lety's for the Shrimp in Chipotle Cream Sauce.
We like Lety's for being unpretentious enough that you can dress as you will, and not feel out of place.

Our once-per-visit "foo foo" restaurant is Amuleto, high above La Ropa. Excellent food and the best view anywhere in the area. They also have the best and largest Margaritas we've found. Get there around 5:30 to enjoy both before dinner. A reservation is needed. Unlike La Casa Que Canta, they don't have a dress code.

Coconuts in Zihua. Old established restaurant in Centro. Beautiful location, great food, great service, and doesn't break the bank!

I find your comment interesting. In my view, when you go to a restaurant, any restaurant, you are supporting the local economy: servers, cleaners, cooks, the people that grow the food, taxis that take people there, to name a few. Of course, you also benefit the owner of the restaurant who invested on it.

So, if in the end we are all for supporting the local economy, why single out people who dine out at pricier places?

Diversity and choice is what makes the world go round, in my opinion.

Best wishes,
BL

I eat at those places also and many are delicious. But a question for you- How does someone eating at an expensive (for that area) restaurant support a fat cat tourist? Also, what is the point where a regular cat and a fat cat get drawn?

Went in Nov . View is almost at sea level. Prices are a bit steep as compared to most other places in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa. . But will go back as we did enjoy the meal. One of their specialties which my wife enjoyed would undoubtedly offend the web masters principles .

The construction calls for 7 or 8 condo complexes where you will park your car at the top level and then be chauffeured to your unit in a golf cart type vehicle.

Next door is a spectacular large house built on the cliffs owned by a Canadian who was we were told, and perhaps still is involved in the mail order pharmacy business.

We do recommend It and think the food better than the old Kay Kan

I thought the Canadian had sold it. That home is magnificent. And as far as Fru-fru restaurants to die for, I vote for Tentenciones on La Ropa. I know I spelled it wrong.

Does Anyone know where this is located? I tried to look at the map but my question is it up past the Palmetto condo's and the old Villa De Selva? We have been staying in that area for 4 years now and I would love to have a restaurant close by to enjoy happy hour and dinner that we can walk to. We love the fuu fuu restaurants as you call them. When we go on vacation it's fun to get dressed up and go out because back home it’s hard to get dressed up as you must wear so many layers lol. We also love to go to lety’s and other restaurants. Top Fuu Fuu restaurants for us are not listed in any order- Tentaciones, Espuma, Mar u Cielo, Mito restaurant and Wine Store, Loot. Thank you everyone for your posts on this board I really enjoy reading everything and taking in all the pictures. Looking forward to spending about 18 days in February each year it keeps getting longer and longer

Kau Kan Ixtapa anbot been - went last night

by BL @, Sunday, January 07, 2018, 12:58 (48 days ago) @ el vagabundo

Finally went last night.

Food is amazing, smaller menu though than their previous location.
Service very nice, too. Many of the same waiters with great and helpful attitudes.
View and setting is very nice, reminds me a bit f the old Puerto Mio with a rocky beach and sounds that accompany it.
They have only 6-7 tables and a smallish kitchen. Ricardo told us they are there temporarily, until the space becomes the beach club restaurant for the condo complex.
Finding a reservation proved to be challenging for us, and the receptionist was not particularly helpful or attentive.
Getting there is tricky: any cab knows where it is, and then there is an unpaved road down that is very, very narrow. On our way back the taxi got "stuck" for a bit and it was somewhat worrisome. I would NOT recommend going there after a rainy day and i would not feel safe driving.
We took the stairs going down and honestly they are not super safe or well lit, took the elevator on our way back up.

Not sure if we will be returning. As I said, food is to die for, and I am not sure if the hassle is worth it. Maybe wait and see where their next location is?
