You can buy butter in Zihua. The beer counts as part of your declaration.

I have been to Mexico countless times but I just don't like the butter I've eaten anywhere. I would just like to bring my own but not if its a problem with customs.
I love the food and have had many wonderful meals at local restaurants. I know a lot of people prefer Mexican butter, I'm just not one of them. Its a minor thing that I can live without but just the same I would rather not.

Thanks

Hola. We always find some good butter at Mega sorianos. There is a Danish butter that we buy that is either salted or unsalted. Can't remember the brand but the salted stuff has a blue label.

Thanks Ernie, We won't need that much but good to know that it needs to be in the original package.I really try to like local foods and I will eat just about anything once but I just cant get used to the difference in the butter.

can I just put it in my luggage or do I have to declare it somewhere on the Mexican Customs Declaration?

UGH, many things are better in Mexico but Mexican butter is not one of them. I'll take something stamped from Wisconsin any day!

this time I have to agree with Robb. Can't imagine wasting the effort and time to bring butter, and to a lesser extent even beer. What's the point of traveling if you want to take all the elements of your daily living with you?

I agree Rob, the beer is great. I only wanted to bring two or three in my checked luggage for the bus ride to the Resort in Cabo next week. They allow it on the bus but a beer at the SJD Airport is $5 US:omg: .Last year I just waited until I got to the resort. Sorry about the Mexican butter but that's a taste I can't get used to. I can't wait to get back to Zihua in March.

Most Mexican butters contain margarine, check the labels. The person who owns the oeganic food store on Higos, told me that only Alpura is the only company that doesn't. I haven't verified this because I buy my butter from the organic store. I believe her as she gave me the name of a competing product without hesitation. Perhaps people are nostalgic for the taste of margarine, I however am not. I completely understand bringing your own. The label of the mentioned lurpak, second ingredient is canola oil.

You have the wrong Lurpak, obviously the tub of spreadable. The cubed Lurpak butter is pure crema de vaca, cultivo lactico, y sal and tastes and cooks like real butter. https://www.lurpak.com/es-mx/nuestros-productos/lurpakr-mantequilla-con-sal-100g/?fromlanguage=en

Somebody's been pulling your leg. La mantequilla es mantequilla y la margarina es margarina. I don't use margarina, only mantequilla, and I like mine sin sal. If you find a package that says its "mantequilla de vaca" but that contains "margarina" please send me a photo. Mantequilla Lurpak is 100% crema de leche de vaca.

Here's a Profeco study of mantequillas and margarines from a few years back but still quite relevant today.

Saludos.

I stand corrected, yes indeed the lurpak was the spreadable variety and yes it does include margarine. it has been in the fridge for over a year, probably time to throw it out. I will continue to buy the organic butter, regardless.

Funny how Gloria butter without salt, non-spreadable has listed as an ingredient, lecitina de soya. as an ingredient, photo available. Have you tasted lecithin before, It sure gives a margarine taste, as I previously stated.

I buy unsalted butter with canola oil here in the States. It spreads more easily and has fewer calories.

Sour Cream?

by Herman, Monday, February 04, 2019, 15:49 (42 days ago) @ frostbite

Would someone please tell me the correct words to look for when I purchase sour cream?
Several years ago, I did obtain some from the Commercial. I think the label had the word similar to fermentia?
I can find very thick, high quality sweet cream, but that is not what I want

I think Lurpak butter was mentioned on this thread already, but it’s the best European butter you can get, if you are lucky, in Mexico.
I grew up in England and always had it there..
