On our Cruise we stopped in Jamaica. We went on the 9 Mile Tour and were told we were going to be high and could get high. The tour was Bob Marley's estate in the mountains. You could smoke or eat cake within the compound. Visiting the graves of his and mothers you had to take your shoes off and could not smoke tobacco but smoking marijuana was ok. One of the guides had his joint lite. It appears our guide was feeling no pain. You were ok as long as you did not go out side the compound. We were told if a police said anything, just offer him a puff.

I only stayed at a small compound of rustic lodgings on stilts called “Perseverence” in Negril for a couple of weeks 45 years ago before it was overrun with condos and hotels. I’d been listening to Bob Marley then for a couple of years since his music swept the U.S. Virgin Islands where I’d been living, but when I went to see him that same year in concert at a stadium in Tampa the people didn’t know who he was and they booed him. Typical Tampa. Negril and the people I met there were wonderful, but it’s saddening to see all the developments and the loss of so much beauty and tranquility in what had been such a peaceful little village. .

Glad you got to visit Bob’s home. He did a lot of good for Jamaica as well as for music.

So did you try a spliff or any cake? Hope you at least tried some Red Stripe beer. :dude:

I will not answer that. His compound is up in the mountains away from everything. No develope anywhere. We left the toll road going across the mountains and wound up for miles going higher on a 1 1/2 line road. Funny thing coming back, we were on a small bus and vehicles would have to pull over to pass- coming from the compound there was a large truck coming up the mountain. There was no way our bus and the truck could pass. The truck had to back about 1/2 mile where there was room for the 2 to pass and once we got past, a short distance later a farmer taking his cattle down to road and had a hard time getting around the cattle. We were in area with a lot of small farms with no development. Very isolated area.

We really enjoyed the tour because we got to see the mountain country side that the developments had not gotten to yet- guess it's because the roads will not handle large vehicles. Just very small communities with the schools and different Churches.

I hope you bought some of their delicious Blue Mountain coffee. Even their instant coffee is surprisingly delicious.

Good rum, too!

There is a place I will never go to.
