Pier to be demolished before Semana Santa

According to Gobernador Hector Astudillo the final permit has been issued and demolition of the municipal pier can now take place. He says work will begin before Semana Santa meaning the pier will NOT be available to use during one of our busiest times of the year. I'm sure the water taxis and Las Gatas restaurants are not exactly thrilled at this news.

Back to this again.

Perhaps the pangas/lanchas could load/unload at Puerto Mio?

That isn't even remotely practical.

Too bad the government didn't go for the plan I helped Capt. Tony pitch to the previous administration. This "problem" would've been over by now. But Capt. Tony's solution was too economical, not costing enough millions of pesos that could be siphoned off and spread around. Desitively NOT bonaroo.

Could you at least push for a small one?

This has been a done deal now for years. A structure that is MORE economical to build and maintain while being LESS susceptible to bad weather and earthquakes is apparently not something our "responsible authorities" want us to have.

Had to be the same brain trust that decided to start the rebuilding of the paseo right before and during the fall & winter high season.

VERY untrue. The construction period was proposed to be 9 months. Pick your poison.

Like I said, same brain trust. If you know ahead of time it will be 9 months, put more manpower on it and do it in 5 or 6.

The walkway is a different brainfart. Neighbors have been calling for its MAINTENANCE ever since it was built and left to deteriorate JUST LIKE THE FIRST WALKWAY that it replaced. This is walkway number three. There is no reason not to expect it to suffer the same fate as the previous two versions.

The work on the most recent version began over a year ago to the outrage of some of us when we were finally allowed to see the plans and managed to get them changed to something much more acceptable for the first part of the walkway, though there's more to go and more haggling to do. The original plan for the third version of the walkway had huge blocks of concrete structures everywhere. Tons and tons more concrete poured over even more beach and what few green areas remain. Each municipal administration preaches its devotion to ecological sustainability then proceeds to pour tons more cement where it isn't needed or even wanted. Construction contracts mean... Well, no need to wallow in the mire.

No, they'll still come. They'll just wait a lot longer to get to Las Gatas and back.
