While the ocean remains cool we’ll continue having great sleeping weather even if the days get hotter while the sun moves northward on our horizon. Once the ocean starts warming conditions will slowly worsen as the air becomes heavy, humid, stagnant and increasingly smokier. Fans that are usually sufficient to refresh on a low setting will seem useless even on high speed. You will immediately begin to sweat after showering, and you will not look forward to reclining on your hot bed. Of course, as more and more non-tropically-acclimated people move here more of them need air conditioning to sleep and more brownouts and blackouts occur at the worst time of year. It can certainly try the patience of even the most serene of souls.

Oh boy.

I only used air con one night and it was on October 28th but I am sure it would be a different story if I lived here past April 15th. Here's to an early and regular rainy season this year!:-o

Did I mention the smoke? It can be a MONSTER!

It starts with a few of these.

Then it slowly creeps across the sky.

Next thing you know it's everywhere. This was Semana Santa a couple of years ago.

Some days it looks like a war zone where everyone lost.

But the smoke also makes for some spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

It looks awful.

After going through so many brush fires in California, think Malibu, hopefully it won't be any worse.

We are still looking forward to the almost 3 month window that we have missed here. It's gross, it's nasty, it's semi-natural, it's living in Zihuatanejo!

Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

hillside in the first photo to the right of the Carretera as you head to the airport before the military checkpoint was on fire approx. 10 am, obviously intentionally.

There is currently an invasion going on there. Shanties will probably start appearing there soon.

close to some high $ real estate, not far from La Ropa or the "new" airport road.

The fire you saw in Nuevo Amanecer apparently was started by accident by someone burning their garbage. It took firefighters over 10 hours to get it under control. The person who caused it is unlikely to even get their hand slapped. Old habits are hard to change and even harder to sanction.

Quema de basura se sale de control y el fuego se extiende por 4 hectáreas

It was 69 this morning at 5:30, only the fourth time it has been below 70 since July 1. By 8:30 it was 85. At 3:00 it was 93. Ouch!

It's still beautiful though, and the early morning time was delightful! We now try to start our paddle before 7am.
