In love with Z, but great deal in at Azul Ixtapa, need help

by KateP @, NEFL, Thursday, June 06, 2019, 20:03 (43 days ago)

We've been to Z a few times, staying at what used to be Brisas del Mar (now Aura del Mar?) and eating and socializing local. Loved every minute, and have always wanted to come back.

We've since moved to a place where airfare is more expensive by a LONGshot, and it also takes longer to get there, so we've been away for a while.

We now have a deal through a friend to stay at Azul Ixtapa for an incredible price. Like, cheap enough that we could just forgo at least half of our all inclusive meals and spend time in Z, Las Gatas, Isla Ixtapa, maybe even fishing, etc... and still be ahead of the game money wise as if we went to Z.

BUT. Will we hate it? We've spent a sum total of about 3 hours in Ixtapa over several Z visits, and could take it or leave it. Does anyone have first hand experience with this particular resort? As I said, we'd have the option to spend a good amount of time away, but at the very least we'd need to sleep and have a couple of meals there to make this worthwhile.

Aydanos, por favor. We're feeling stuck.

Go for it.

I stayed there in 2007 and like you we spent the majority of our vacation in Z.

Busses are easy and taxis are close.

Yay! This sounds promising. So rooms are nice? And grounds/facilities for the time we may be there?

Yes, nice place. Again, we ventured out to Z to eat and enjoy the calm beaches. Pool days were at the hotel.

I would be willing to bet you won't like it as much as Aura del Mar and Zihua!

I don't doubt that for one second, but as I said, this is a deal that's really hard to pass up.

I feel/felt same way, but I spent a few days in Ixtapa just last week and appreciated the plaza a lot more than ever. La Raiz de la Tierra, a vegan restaurant in Ixtapa was beyond fantastic. Some great food options. I really enjoyed walking around town and especially seeing the fun happenings at the local restaurant/bars with the soccer and boxing on television. I can't imagine not enjoying the location, plus you can also try Troncones for a lunch besides z being a few min away.

If they'd only just change the rear facade of the Holiday Inn...

:megusta: Totally agree. From the first time I saw it in 1988 I thought it was a unique structure and it still is. I liked the old paint job better than the current one tho.

Seriously? I had a Lobster dinner one time and I always wanted one again. Know I have an opportunity to have a King Crab dinner for almost free. Will I hate it?

If you're talking winter months, you could give me a tent on any beach in the state of Guerrero and I'd be happy. Taxis are cheap and buses are even cheaper. Go for it!

We used to stay in Z but with a package deal it was less for us to stay at the Azul Grand than a condo on La Ropa. This October will be our 4th year in a row at the Azul Grand. Generally we have one dinner there during our week at the Oyster Bar and then eat in Z for the rest of our dinners. The Azul gives free bike tours and kayak/snorkel tours to Ixtapa Island. You can find cheap massages on the beach by the pier on Playa Linda. Pools are nice at the Azul but we usually do a couple of days on Ixtapa Island. When I fish with Ramon Oleaje he will pick me up at the Playa Linda pier or I can taxi over to Z. Don’t miss Z too much since we go over there at least once a day. We made friends with a taxi driver a few years ago so we just schedule everything with him, makes for a great vacation.

We have benn coming to Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa for over 30 years. We love it here so much we bought a home here in between both cities and love it. A couple of years ago we booked a weekend at Azul Grande just for kicks and our experience was not pleasant. Reception was a hassle and we were treated rather poorly. The room stunk like feces and the hallway too. The food wasn’t good imho. We left after the first day, never to return.

In a weak moment about four years ago we actually purchased at the Azul. We went once and then found someone to buy it. It's not a bad place - it's just not Z. It really is lovely, the rooms are very nice, the view is nice, the service was good, the food was so so. You feel very pampered. We just missed the locals in Z, the food in Z and the ability to walk wherever we wanted. The Azul is far enough out that you don't want to walk to town. I think you'll enjoy it, just plan on going to Z a lot! Have fun!
