Taxi fare hikes approved

I see that the taxi organizations finally got their wish. The rate for local rides is going up to 35 pesos. Waiting to find out the rest of the new fares.

I don't mind paying a bit more. The drivers must have a terrible time getting along. But the real answer, it seems to me, would be to cut the number of cabs in half.

No, Jack, I don't believe any rate hike has been authorized. I see no official notification by the state in their Periódico Oficial and I see no mention anywhere else. It's not law if it isn't published in the state's Periódico Oficial.

Where did you see this?

Thanks, Jack.

It helps to know the law. Just because some politicians have once again approved a rate hike does not make it legal. I already checked. It has not appeared in the Periódico del Estado. I'll check again tomorrow. It is neither law nor legal until it does. But yeah, what's a few legal technicalities in a lawless state where the politicians keep screwing things up for their personal benefit at the expense of the population?

I recommend walking and ride-sharing. There are too many taxis and locals cannot afford them, but they want us to pay for their oversaturation of the market caused by state politicians granting too many taxi concessions. They keep blaming gas prices, but then they drive around empty and hot-rodding much of the time instead of parking at a taxi stand and waiting for a fare.

And why won't or can't they do as in Acapulco, colectivos? Numerous passengers going the same direction and each pays 10 pesos. Then they can exit when they are near their destination. The colectivos (taxis) fenders are painted a different color from the regular taxis so as to identify them. Convert a third of our current taxis to colectivos. . . .??

That is done here. There is a particular taxi that seems to watch for us in front of our house. He'll take us to town for 10p each, same as the combi, and add others along the way.

We have had it happen other places here too. Not terribly common, but it is done.

Talley you're talking about an exception, whereas Leemr is talking about a normal everyday occurrence in Acapulco.

And in Oaxaca, Palenque, Patcuaro and many other places.

We suspect that it often has a lot to do with language.

The year we stayed at Casitas on La Ropa we must have run into your taxi guy, because we did what you did. We were waiting for the micro bus and a taxi guy suggested we join another rider. Cost us the same or less for a ride to central.

would 35 pesos versus 25 pesos really be worth worrying about to most people from north of the border for a two or three week vacation especially given higher airfares due to Boeings "issues" ?

The heck with what it costs us. Think about the locals.

People from north of the border don’t come in the numbers they used to, and they don’t travel around the area as much as they used to. The majority of taxi fares are locals, and we simply can’t afford to use them anywhere near what we used to. So the oversaturated market now charges more though it has less demand, which will in turn cause demand to fall. They will continue raising the rates and demand will continue to fall. And the state will continue issuing more taxi permits. It’s an old local story.

Regardless if the new rate has became legalized, the taxi's at Mega started charging their new rates on August 3rd. The one driver I spoke to produced the new price sheet showing an increase of 10p.

Our usual driver took us to the airport today and said many Ixtapa cab drivers are not happy with the huge hike in prices. He is convinced locals will not use them now, and he also questions the wisdom of raising prices as vacation period ends. According to him this summer was not very good, and they still have to deal with September and October where not many tourists come.

He says pricing for Ixtapa is not yet finalized.

I hope they find a good solution!

Sorry, I can't recall the numbers. He was referring particularly to trips to the airport. If I remember correctly, the new rates are similar to what one pays from the airport, and that wasn't the case. He also mentioned rates to Punta Ixtapa being excessive.

So Tía believes T&A over me?

As I said, until it appears in the Periódico Oficial de Guerrero, it is not law or legal or official. And as I already said and as I just confirmed again, the authorization for a rate hike has NOT been published. Why anyone would believe that farcical T&A website instead of me I can't imagine, but then some folks also believe a lying racist narcissist draft dodging brat billionaire con man cares about them, too. There's no accounting for a lack of good sense.

Yes, a rate hike was "avalado" by the state officials, but it should NOT have been implemented yet, and whoever is already charging more is doing so illegally. Yes, I know it's simply a technicality and this is Guerrero, a lawless state, but it's in my nature to try to be aware of the laws and how they work. It's why until I have an official rate hike sheet with the proper seals and signatures, I will not publish them.

Yes, knowing the correct rates helps prevent misunderstandings. And having a friendly trustworthy driver is even better.
