I'll get the new rates on my website ASAP. I'm waiting for the complete list of rates for non-sitio taxis (the ones not assigned to a hotel or touristy place like Playa La Ropa or Playa Linda). Yes, not only have they gone up, quite steeply wherever foreigners and tourists might be, but the taxis at all the sitios are now using completely different rates than the non-sitio taxis that you normally hail on the streets. So be careful which taxis you hail on the streets, because if you hail a taxi from a sitio returning to the sitio where they are stationed from taking a fare somewhere, expect to pay 10 to 20 pesos more in town and as much as a hundred or more additional pesos for rides beyond the town limits. They will have their official rate sheets with them, but at the top it will say where their sitio is, such as Hotel Thompson (aka Villa del S9ol) or Las Brisas. They should also have their sitios painted on the side of their vehicle, but since some vehicles work different sitios depending on their shifts not all do.

Things just got VERY confusing and EXTREMELY greedy.

Sounds like we'll have to ask the driver to confirm their rate every time we take a taxi, even for trips within Centro, and just say "no" to sitio cabs trying to cover their return trips. Since we will be taking at least four taxi rides every day during our four months in Zihua this winter, a significant increase over the $900+ we spent last year on taxis will hurt.

Yes, very greedy. We have had some very disappointed guests for some trips. 600 pesos for a ride to Barra de Potosi!
