yesterday's carnage in Culiacan and AMLO's failure to lead was disappointing to many, and the finger pointing will not assist the citizens looking to a government to provide safety.

right, indiscriminate bloodshed and zero concern about the well being of civilians caught in the crossfire .

Gee, I missed that part. I know the government caught and released Ovidio Guzmán because narco gangs threatened to make a ruckus, but as far as I know there were only two deaths and about 8 wounded. Small potatoes compared to what's been going on here in Guerrero and Michoacán this week.I'd hardly call it carnage. Carnage was what happened to the 13 cops ambushed in Michoacán or the 14 narcos killed in Guerrero.

Maybe I've lived here too long.

The reports I have read say that there were 7 dead, 1 civilian among them, and 16 injured. On top of that a city and the government of Mexico were brought to their knees and forced to surrender a criminal (possibly 2 major criminals) they had in their custody. Not a proud day and one that certainly makes me worry. Not so much that it makes me change my mind about living here or carrying on with my daily life, but brushing it off is not something that I currently find myself able to do.

Not brushing anything off. Most of the folks in Mexico who aren’t Pejezombis are quite disappointed in AMLO’s decision. I was referring to the adjective “carnage” that I thought was a bit excessive, relatively speaking, compared to the events in Aguililla in the Tierra Caliente of Michoacán and in Tepochica in the Sierra Madre del Sur near Iguala, Guerrero.

My heart breaks for Mexico! It's tough to figure out what's the right thing. We come every year for 5-6 months & planning on moving to our beautiful Zihua in the next year. This is certainly not good for tourism & just adds to Trumps fire to keep Americans out! Glad to be Canadian for now:-) :vivamexico:

Keep Americans out of where?

There are certainly interests in the USA who prefer to keep U.S. tourist dollars in the USA. This didn't begin with The Chump and I doubt it will end when he's behind bars where he belongs. Other interests in the USA seek to promote chaos and violence in Mexico, thus, after creating a multi-billion dollar a year black market dominated by violent organized criminals, the null intervention by the U.S. government of the quarter million or so firearms a year sold mostly to straw buyers in a few southwestern states and smuggled effortlessly into Mexico. This is an old story going back at least to the theft of Texas and the rest of what used to be part of Mexico that the USA's history books claim it "bought", with little mention of the fact that you can't buy what isn't for sale (and that a contract made under coercion is not binding) or that the USA's war with Mexico was based on lies (an unfortunate recurring theme in U.S. history).
B-)

One lesson I have learned in my life is that the best way to fix my problems is look at what I can do to change my situation regardless of what others are doing to try and bring me down. It is a philosophy that I feel has served me well. I am proud to be here in Mexico and connecting with the 50% of myself that is Mexican, with my Mexican partner, and hopefully making a positive contribution to our community here in Mexico. I look at the work that you and many others do to make this city and country a better place. I can't help but wonder if we Mexicans wouldn't do much better spending more energy on how we can fix our own flaws rather than focusing on how others have taken advantage of our flaws.

CNN reported today that the Mexicans' attempt to arrest El Chapo's son was because the US had requested that they do so and that they then extradite him to the US!!! So indirectly, the Chump and his so-called "state" department caused the deaths of 7 people in Mexico. Lovely, isn't it?

So is the lesson here that the Mexican police should not try to arrest anyone in the drug cartels not matter what?

No, Bill, it's that being the neighbor of the USA often comes at a very high price for Mexico.

Heads would explode across the USA if any other nation treated the USA the way it treats many other nations.

Obtuseness is not conducive to understanding.

The first step in solving any problem is identifying the problem. But if you can’t even get that far without having ego issues then perhaps you should stay on the sidelines in any such discussion.

I’m pretty sure the Founding Fathers never intended for the republic they founded to treat other nations as lessers. So my question about imagining the sentiment among the populace were other nations to treat the USA as it treats others should have fostered a response based on reflection and introspection, not animosity, arrogance or indignation.

That’s like asking what the violence in Oakland means for Malibu.

The Presidente was just here, flying into and out of our airport on commercial airlines, paying for gasoline for his vehicle at a gas station near Troncones and greeting workers and customers there and everywhere he went.

Although I don't live there, I have traveled to Zihu since 1985. I never felt scared then, except for the crocidilles on the beach before they drained the swamp.

I think I am safer in Mexico for the most part than in any large city in North America. This could just be the warm air and swaying palm trees give me a false sense of security, but in all the changes in Zihu in 30 years, this so called drug war has never effected me.

Even on a trip to El Salto, I was stopped by the federal police and the so called cartel to inspect our car, neither threatened us or intimidated us in any way.

I always avoid politics on both sides of the border.

I was traveling south the last day and fell out of the news cycle. Given the thugs held a city of 1 million hostage while the government 9local and federal )was clearly ineffective, I think carnage was a good adjective where more than two persons are killed outside of a war zone, yes what happened in Michocan was carnage as well
