Recently the world's record biggest king chess piece was relocated from the courtyard of the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande to just outside its walls on the street side facing the Escuela Primaria "Vicente Guerrero". I believe it will soon have a barrier of some kind installed around it to keep people from defacing it. It's an impressive work of art and we hope the people of Zihuatanejo will look after it.

The beach area in front of the museum is a beautiful spot to enjoy some sun, and at this time of year with the canal closed by a sandbar it's also good for swimming. Not sure why these posts were left there. Hopefully they'll be removed soon.

Bricks? No, it's made out of wood. It comes apart in three sections.

Thanks for pointing that out. I would have probably walked by there (probably already have) without realizing the significance.
I noticed those posts as well. I think they were put up the night of that SailFest show with the mDock band. I was thinking they would stay up for GuitarFest. Just a thought- no evidence...

Feb. 12 2020

That piece of art is very spectacular.

Wouldn't it get more "mileage" IF it was displayed at a spot with more visibility such as el Fuente del Sol, la Glorieta de P. Kioto, or where the Gumby figures are, a.k.a. "Los Bailarínes"?
Where it is now behind el Muséo is somewhat hidden.
It deserves more attention, ¿no crees?
It could be another tourist attraction.
Maybe there was a particular reason as to why it was put there behind el Muséo instead of at another site with more visibility?

The first time I saw a picture of it, I thought it was made of bricks, which would allow it to last a long time, but hard to move. Since it's made of wood, its lifetime is fairly limited, I would think. Looking forward to seeing it in person, next month.
