Soriana advised folks who contacted them that Seniors could go in between 9 and 11. However, in a follow up call to Talley Ho, they said Seniors could go any time with a mask.

I went today, Sunday at 8:30am. No problem at all. And they were even giving masks to those who did not have them, although most folks did.

I sent Soriana a thank you for their attention to our concerns. I know Talley Ho did also. MIght be a good idea for others who would have been hurt by the prior policy to send their appreciation. In Spanish, of course!

Mexico is clearly ahead of us here in the frozen north, at least when it comes to masks. Can't buy one anywhere. I expect that some or all stores will soon require that customers wear masks. Hope they're prepared to hand them out, 'cuz the homemade varieties don't cut it.
I stand corrected: one of our "dollar stores" is selling them, 50 to a box, for $50....and no, you can't purchase in smaller quantities......and at a buck apiece, I don't imagine they're "N95s"

I ordered some of these masks made by Maya women in Yucatan. It was about 600 Pesos DHL from Merida to Zihua. He will ship to Zihua and Canada for $50 US. They are well made and described as N-100 filtering more than N- 95.

Email at steven.m.fry for details on how to get a good proven ultra-high efficiency medical-grade mask for between $4 ea (large orders) and $12 each (small orders).

medical workers in masks

and yes, these masks are comfortable, made of soft surgical barrier cloth … and are gently hand-washable up to 70 times … for up to 7 months of light use.

On the Yucatan near Merida. They are made by Mayan women.

I think it is highly unlikely that these are “N-100” masks given the description of the fabric. FWIW the difference between the two is that the N-100 is 99.7% efficient vs 95%

That is the description that was given by the scientist in Merida who has organized the production. At any rate they are far better than what we had and washable. He has written some very detailed and informative articles on the Surviving Yucatan website. An added bonus is that it is providing work and good income for the Maya women doing the sewing. They are not cheap. We only need them for trips to Mega and Sams every 10 days or so which we do at 7 am so there is very little contact with people. Thankfully my wife is an incredible cook.

The fact that they are washable suggests that they are not N-100 or N-95. The specialized fabric that is used to make these masks is NOT washable. Mind you I am talking about NIOSH standards for respirators. It could be there are different standards in Mexico. FWIW, I have been an Occupational Medicine doc for the past 10 years and do respiratory clearance exams.

Well let's hope one of the ladies at the register doesn't sneeze on us.

Hola. Just got back from Mega this afternoon. No problems at the door and we don't look anything like we are under 55. As an aside, we had a friend that was 50 refused entry yesterday because he looked old. Go figure.
