With hope of health conditions improving by October, I tried by email to get and or make reservations for October. One Troncones hotel never responded and another Zihuatanejo condo wasn't accepting reservations. Can anyone explain this or is everything closed down until "all clear" is given? HELP! Both were listed on this web site. Thanks.

We are still pretty much shut down here, make that we ARE shut down here!

People aren't going to work, they are staying home. We walk by The Thompson/Viceroy every morning. It appears that their entire staff is four security guys, working 12 hours each. That's it. A very very few restaurants are offering take out/delivery, but we, as a town are closed for now. The beaches have been closed since April 3.

Right now the airport has two flights to Mexico City a week, and that is it. Nothing else, but reservations are being taken for international flights starting in June.

Hopefully, June 1, the world will reopen. Send us positive thoughts! We are glad you are going to return and help our currently non existent economy.

Here's an alert excerpt from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.

"On April 3, Mexican Tourism and Health officials instructed hotels to cancel new and existing reservations and close for non-essential business. All accommodation services, including hotels, hostels, online platforms, and travel agencies, will cease receiving reservations and will reschedule all reservations. Guests who require accommodation due to essential business activities are permitted to stay in hotels with a maximum occupancy of 15 percent and may be asked to provide an employer letter certifying the nature of their business. Other non-resident foreign citizens currently in hotel accommodations have been requested to return home immediately. Individuals showing respiratory symptoms will be referred to health authorities."

I suppose the government will announce re-openings when they think it is safe.

I believe the plan is to begin reopening during June for low risk areas. June is expected to be the peak for Guerrero.

Greetings to all Fellow Zihuatanejo Lovers. I was searching for information on the current situation in Zihua and found this website. Many thanks to Zihua Rob for sponsorship of the forum. I just wish the circumstances were not so dire. Reading all this breaks my heart. Zihuatanejo is my favorite place on the planet! I visited three times in 2019.

I had my round trip airline ticket from Tijuana direct to Zihua for spring break in late March. The week before was when they closed the border between San Diego and Tijuana to "non-essential travel." Volaris' website was completely swamped and I could not reschedule my flight. I sadly contacted my absolute favorite hotel in Zihua, Bungalows La Madera, and had to cancel my reservation. (Realistically, I could have snuck into Tijuana and then made my way to the airport but I was really frightened that I might lose my SENTRI pass if I got caught, especially on my way back into San Diego.)

My sincere hope is that travel will be up and running by September. The last time I checked, Volaris was still offering direct flights from Tijuana to Zihua in September.

Stay safe, everyone! Here are best wishes for an effective treatment and vaccine to be developed much sooner than later!

Yours,

Frank Paiano

Thanks, Frank. Your sentiments are much appreciated.

We're living the consequences of an economy 100% dependent upon tourism. A situation not unlike what we lived through in Florida during the oil embargo of the early 70's when tourists stopped travelling to Florida and many towns found themselves searching for alternative industries to provide employment for their population. Something responsible citizens have been suggesting for Zihuatanejo for decades.

Wishing you and yours safety and good health. Hope to see you here soon. Warm saludos.

Not sure why anyone in Troncones wouldn't answer their e-mail. It's not like they have anything better to do right now.

Here's a place you might try. I just redid their website.

Hi Beachdreamer!

I have a rental property in Troncones and am responding to emails within 24 hours. :-) I sent you a private message. If you don't receive it, please let me know!

Troncones is pretty much closed until further notice. I am still waiting for guidance as to when I will be able to start accepting reservations. My bookings are closed through June 15th.

I am hopeful that things will improve by October. I want to make sure that my town and the community stay safe.

Made reservations right after we returned from Guitar Fest in March for a 10/31 arrival at Thompson. Caught a good deal on a United flight. Hoping that all goes well and we are all back on the beaches soon.

Feel free to send me an email - you can contact me via the message board (click on the envelope) or send an email direct to casadelacostatroncones@gmail.com

Things are somewhat "fluid" right now and I'm not sure how travel will be affected later this year and into next.

Casa de la Costa is beachfront, just about midway from the T to Majahua. It has 3 self contained suites, each with a fully stocked kitchenette. I may be limiting the number of guests at the house to maintain social distancing.....if I move forward with that it will be 2 person max per suite. The property is smoke free and pet free for the comfort of all guests. We were providing a light breakfast around a communal table but not sure how that will change.

(My website should have been live by April 15th but the completion of my photo shoot in April didn't happen - because I couldn't get there to over see it.)

Thanks for your interest!!!
