Our second food drive is on Saturday, May 16. There will be another one June 1.

Jornada de Solidaridad is being carried out by the Director of Fibazi Jorge Allec Maciel. It relies entirely on donations and is not part of the government's effort. Jorge Allec is an excellent organizer who was born here, knows everyone, and is widely respected. (Thanks Rob, I didn't know this!!!)

The drop off point is open from 8 to 5 and reception and delivery tables for donated products will be installed on the sidewalk on the corner of Av. Morelos and Presa de la Angostura, in front of the traffic light. Drive past the mercado on Benito Juarez to the T at Morelos. Go as straight across the intersection as is possible, the tables are on the right. We went in circles last time until we finally found it.

Here are the items requested:

1 Kg of beans
1 Kg of rice
1 Kg of Maseca
1 Lt. of milk
1 Kg of sugar
1 Lt. of oil
1 Nescafé of 42 grs.
1 Zote soap
1 Package of Marías cookies
1 envelope of soup paste
1 package of toilet paper
1 can of tuna
1 box of cereal

The cost is minimal. 200 pesos purchased all of these items at Bodega Aurerra yesterday.

IF YOU ARE NOT HERE, and most of you are not, do please make a cash donation to Carol's Rice and Beans https://porlosninos.com/news/ or some other group that you trust to get the best value out there.

It doesn't matter how you send funds, but keep in mind that you don't want the recipients to have to expend a lot of time and energy that would be better spent getting food out to where it is needed.

Thanks to everyone for caring about what happens in our little paradise.

Just to clarify, this wonderful event known as Jornada de Solidaridad is being carried out by the Director of Fibazi Jorge Allec Maciel. It relies entirely on donations and is not part of the government's effort. Jorge Allec is an excellent organizer who was born here, knows everyone, and is widely respected. We wholeheartedly endorse this effort just like we do Carol Romain's. The need is incredibly great, but the people are also making a great effort.

Me again with another clarification. The plaza where the food drive is occurring is called Plaza de la Libertad de Expresión, known more "affectionately" as Plaza de los Huevones. Technically it's supposed to be closed right now, but for the food drive it is open.

Actually, it's NOT there.

We drove all around last time, and finally found it at the end of Benito Juarez, across Morelos on a side street.

That's the location they've been announcing on their Facebook page and in the newspapers. And I quote: "La 2ª jornada se desarrollará en el mismo sitio que la 1ª: Frente al semáforo de la Plaza de la Libertad de Expresión, aquí, en Zihuatanejo."

It's what they said last time too. We'll check and find it wherever it is!
