Beaches closed?

I’ve dug and can’t find the official notice but aren’t the beaches closed until July? Does anyone have the official word? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the beaches are closed until Presidente López lifts the decree that closed them. We're hoping that may be soon since the hotels in Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa have been authorized to reopen beginning June 1st. The water is really pretty right now even though I think I smelled a bit of red tide a few days ago, but at the moment it seems perfect even with the intermittent large waves that we've been having these past couple of weeks.

I'll let you know here as soon as I find out when our beaches will again will be open.

Gobernador Astudillo doesn't control the beaches. They're federal jurisdiction. He's delayed the opening of schools and some businesses, but I believe his main concern is the 2 million or so people in Acapulco as well as the tens of thousands of folks in the isolated communities of the sierra where no real medical assistance is available.

A couple of observations from down here at the Madera end.
A couple of days ago a couple of guys who certainly looked like legit employees were using gas blowers to clean the Paseo.
Very welcome because down here the hillside dumps a lot of little and not so little rocks and various debris on the Paseo.
Today I saw someone raking the sand in front of one of the restaurants- like they do every morning when in operation.
The last few days I've hardly seen any "attendants" at the entrances to the beach.
Most of the yellow tape on the Paseo itself, not the entrances so much, which has acted as a gentle "dissuader" for strolling, has come down, don't know if from natural causes or someone helped them along.

One thing to note is that a fair amount of plastic garbage and various other junk has washed up on some of the playas between Madera and Principal.

Over the last few weeks there have been less and less people walking, jogging, exercising on the Paseo and on the Playa in the early morning hours, from about 7-9, when there has been no enforcement of restrictions (thankfully)

Good observations. Thanks!

I hate that damn noisy blower!

The plastic trash is apparently being stirred up by the waves from the mar de fondo effect. It appears that the bay is spitting back out some of the accumulated crap we've poured into it. We've seen it down this way, too, but it's mostly old plastic bottles from what I've seen.

You're the official condo commando in charge down that way. Make sure they take good care of the beach and walkway. You know all about that yellow PRECAUCIÓN tape. ;-)

I haven't given up my idea to be part of a Paseo Preservation Fund...just in case they didn't set enough funds aside to maintain this gem that we have...

At least on Playa la Ropa, the very occasional employee that is working in the dark rakes the waterline and then watches for officials before they put it in bags and cart it off.

Everyone is trying to be careful and follow the rules.
