not directly related but wondered if anyone had looked into whether any med evac insurance to the USA now covers the corona virus?

Trravel from the US to both Mexico and Canada is currently restricted to all non-essential travelers until Aug 1st with talk/plans to extend the restrictions until further notice. The Bahamas are also no longer an option for vacationers from the US. I don’t think we’ll be welcome anywhere until after November 3rd. After that who knows? It’s a good thing the Rio Grande swims both ways.

The only restrictions between Mexico and the US on travel is by land, driving or walking across the borders.

We get both direct flights from Los Angels and Phoenix every Saturday.

Speaking for the four El Paso land crossings there are no restrictions entering Mexico. I do it daily. Coming into El Paso you must be a USA citizen, resident or work there. Also if you have a family member who you care for, so it's the honor system basically.

Ditto. I have not crossed from San Diego to Tijuana driving or walking for some time now. However, during the depths of the lock down a few months ago, I crossed often for some medical help. Not once was I stopped going into Mexico and never asked about why I traveled to Mexico on my way back. I do have a SENTRI pass so the U.S. agents are usually more lenient with us.

From the US to Canada, the deadline is August 21rst at the moment but likely to be extended for much longer.

I would refer to the State Dept website and it clearly states that it is LAND travel restriction only and does not apply to flights. You can travel from USA to Mexico and vice versa via airplane. I am getting ready to do it back to my home and family in Queretaro. My wife has asked numerous times at the airport and with officials, a temperature check upon arrival, no quarantine and away you go. Semper!!

There may be some obvious reason why anyone can fly back and forth between Canada, the US and Mexico but no one is allowed to cross either of those borders by land.....but I don't see it.

Again, you can travel into Mexico by land, I do it nearly everyday. Mexicans can travel into the USA by land if they are residents, work, school (if they ever reopen) or to take care of a family member. Basically anything 'essential'. Vacations into the USA or shopping for non-USA residents is something that is denied.

Understood, but if a Canadian wants to fly to the US or to Mexico for a vacation, or someone from the US wants to fly to Mexico for a vacation, no problemo. Doesn't make sense.
