After a short stay in Canada (3 months), I finally made it back. This trip was a milk run but I was happy to get it anyway. The trip home was a waiting game (8 cancellations) This time was only 3 cancellations The Westjet flights were about 1/3 full ,everyone had their own row. The Aero Mexico flights were a different story Jam packed full Total stops 3 (16 hrs.) Still glad to be back.

Hola, did you fly WestJet part way down, use WestJet and fly with aeromexico partner?
How did you fly back to Zihua and when did you arrive? Westjet--- cancelled our October 31 flight, but we rebooked from Abbotsford November 14. I've been advised they will know which flights will be cancelled again by mid October. Thinking I might just book with Aeromexico directly. Salud and Gracias for your feedback.

Just in case, CDC lists two recent AeroMexico flights, both 696, both from Mexico City to Vancouver, Sept 11 & 27 as having confirmed Covid cases. Hope those weren't your flights.

Reporting the truth is not being a downer Rob! Especially on a travel site, it sure would be nice to know for folks that will chance it and still come to Zihua that there were reported cases on their flights. Especially as it is likely how more cases will spread through your community as airports and planes are well known areas prone to spreading covid19. Airports are the worst as there is little social distancing happening there. And as some of the airlines are starting to get busier, it won't be much better on planes risk wise.

You must be right. Risks are everywhere, and Debbie Downer will tell you each and every one, and she will still be Debbie Downer.

I was giving friendly advice and half joking, but you took this conversation somewhere I think was unnecessary.

Isn't it enough that I post what passes for local Covid-19 reports daily? Now you want to know every airline passenger on every plane, at least to Canada, who tests positive, how they got it and their destination, I presume? ;-)

I like the example of Mexico's president instead. Fly coach and NOT get ill. Your hand of fate may play your cards differently. Not sweating the details is what Zihuatanejo is all about.
Saludos. :stones:

Sorry to see you still feel the need to be condescending on this matter. What a surprise that some of us are appreciative of such information like this lady posted. Yes, knowing which flights has passengers testing positive is important and is reported every day in Canada but some people fall through the cracks and are not reached by the people doing tracing. Which is why such info, on a travel site, makes sense. Hiding such info and poking fun at the poster will not help tourism.

Man oh man, you're really scoring points now. Condescending. Attaboy. Gee, do I get the full analysis? Don't hold anything back.

Like I said, feel free to scare the living daylights out of yourself and literally worry yourself to death, if that's how you wish to live. And let's never forget this is an earthquake zone and one could hit at any moment without warning. And let's not forget cosmic rays, asteroids, stray bullets, sinkholes, scorpions, chemtrails, Satan, and accidental nuclear holocaust.

I simply mentioned there is alternative way of thinking and now I'm condescending. Give me a friggin break!

OK, you can stop with the "live in fear or enjoy life" crap anytime. You sound like the morons who see mask-wearing as an assault on their constitutional rights. Tell me what I wrote in the above post that said I "choose fear". Tell me what I wrote that suggested I was denying others their choice.
Zihua regulars.....like us....want as much information as we can get before we commit. Your daily update figures are appreciated, although I note you didn't even comment on my not unreasonable request that each figure be further explained as an increase or decrease, the better to understand the progression of the virus.

For those of you interested in more information this Spanish article may be of interest to you. Excess deaths in Mexico through the end of August The good news is that deaths overall in Mexico appear to have gone down in August and is hopefully the beginning of an improving trend. The bad news is that Guerrero is one of several states that aren't included in this analysis because they aren't providing statistics. This leaves many of us in the dark unfortunately. If the rest of Mexico is a guide though, there are probably 2.5 deaths for every one reported.

While things were generally improving in most of Mexico in August and the first half of September, I'm seeing a rise around many parts of the country that appear to coincide with the festivities last month, mostly in big cities, both inland and border. That's why I'm a bit surprised we aren't seeing similar numbers locally where during the weekend of Día de la Independencia the zócalo was so crowded the city allegedly intentionally provoked a blackout then called for an emergency evacuation.

Thanks for the info! The official amount of deaths for the region is worrisome at 93 already. I sure hope the 2.5x you mentioned does not apply to the Zihua region. It would not be surprising to see the numbers going down in August as it was rather quiet around Zihua at that time compared to previous years. Now we hear there has been a 30% cancelation of bookings for the fall/winter season due to the covid19 issue and many are sitting on the fence, looking a tthe numbers and the issue of the traveling risks. Hence why proper info on numbers are important for making an educated decision. I am one hoping to be able to come back this winter and have a lot of folks asking me privately what my opinion is and I would not recommend going at the moment based on the current situation. Zihua is certainly not the worst place to be to stay safe from this virus but to get there is another story and at the moment, being in airports and planes is not recommended. The issue of quarantine upon your return will certainly be an issue for many. And many of my friends in Zihua are worried about where the tourists are coming from as many places do not have covid under control and will likely be bringing more cases to Zihua. Until a vaccine is available, it sure is a gamble for most...

If there are fence riders that would come down November 07 and they have over a cheek leaning to the lets go side then book those seats for the direct flight Calgary to ZIH on Nov 07 so there are enough filled seats that WestJet won't cancel the flight and we can get there.

Thank you IslandGirl for your diligence in sharing this information which is published here in BC on a regular basis. This valuable information is crucial to people thinking of returning to Zihua and other destinations this winter and will inform their decisions.

Presenting the cavalier attitude of living life without fear in the face of Covid-19 is foolish and resonates the same message that Trump is trying to pass off to the masses at this very time where he is possibly fighting for his life. This is especially dangerous to the demographic who do spend time in Zihua (older, retired, with pre-existing morbidities) who may choose to stay home this winter based on these reports.

I believe you are misreading my comments and I assure you no message of mine resembles anything of that national disgrace in the USA, an offensive comparison I reject and resent. My comments are most certainly NOT "cavalier" and I would appreciate more respect for my efforts to keep you informed. There is such a thing as worrying too much to the extent of causing oneself psychological and physical illness, and my attempt at lightheartedly reminding people of that does not merit the criticism I've received from you and cd69.

Again, I remind you there are people of your demographic traveling daily on buses, trains and planes BECAUSE THEY MUST and they are not getting ill because they observe basic sanitary protocols. This is not a "cavalier" attitude, it is a realistic one, the everyday life of MOST OF THE WORLD.
