As of today Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,317 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 93 that resulted in fatalities, 49 that are currently active, and approximately 1,089 that have recovered. The uptick continues. The municipio has presented an increase of at least 27 new cases for consecutive weeks between 2 weeks before last to the week before last. I expect this number to continue upward for the time being. It had been going down prior to the celebrations for Día de la Independencia. Yesterday the mayor held a huge "banderazo" (where the mayor literally waves a flag like at the start of a car race) with a huge crowd of military and public personnel to supposedly increase the battle against Covid-19. But it looks like just a photo op to me, sorry to say, and one with a mixed message at that. I'm aware of no concrete actions to reduce the rate of transmission of the virus that continues unexpectedly taking lives.

Warm weather continues, and we've had so little rain recently I've been having to water our rooftop plants frequently, something I usually almost never have to do at this time of the year.

Sorry to say it looks like the mayor is determined to pour more cement on the Playa Principal and ignore the pleas of almost all my neighbors who have called against "remodeling" the Paseo del Pescador from the museum to the pier. Besides being the current mayor, he makes his living selling cement, so obviously we see the "project", if not the entire community, from different perspectives.

For those of you considering vacations in the Zihuatanejo region, I hope you'll consider staying at one of the lodgings that I recommend here on my website. No scoundrels or scalliwags. Just good honest hard-working people who are reliable and trustworthy and whose accommodations are comfortable.

Some mornings there's just a flicker of color and then *poof* it's gone, but the morning is always a magical time of day.
