Have there been any rumors about Mega Soriana closing their Zihuatanejo store?
They are regularly out of most things. Is it because they’re closing or is it simply terrible management?

Nope. Considering that we only have two large supermarkets in town, it's bound to be a money maker.

Since the Covid times, there are a number of specialty import items that just aren't being imported, but otherwise their stock, or lack of is normal.

Was there something in particular that you have been looking for, or a particular time of year? The holidays really change a lot of things and always have.

I have noticed problems there as well since October. For example there is a Soriana brand of tortillas they have stocked for a long time. It has been gone since early December. Never thought much of their produce, but since October for me its been a section to overlook.

Perhaps management has gotten too complacent knowing they will do well under most conditions given the lack of competition?

If it was specialty items I could understand. However, I’d like chicken wings, Ciel water, lemons. Nothing unusual. Even their displays are being taken down.
Their displays are being taken down. The many empty shelves would seem to be a sure sign.
I really hope the store will remain open. It would be very disappointing to lose it.

Could also be because it was a stretch of Christmas and then just now Kings Day that depleted shelves

That is the way things typically go. This time of year there are things that disappear for an extended period.

This year many things just didn't arrive, lemons (although those are rarely seen) the three packs of fresh sweet corn that we all watch for never arrived. Green chorizo was missing for almost 6 months and just reappeared this week.

It's one of the many differences in living in Mexico! Availability changes constantly.

We shop at the Mercado Municipal, Mercado Montes de Oca and Merza. If it ain't there, we don't need it. ;-)

There are less than 5 items that we purchase at Soriana. We go there weekly when we have to escape the house due to cleaning and gardener.

Probably 95% of our purchases of any kind come from downtown. It's more fun, closer to the source, often, and we just plain enjoy it more!

For YEARS I have consistently seen all of the major stores wiped out over the holidays. This is going to be exaggerated this year because of supply chain/virus issues.

Was at Soriana yesterday (Sunday) morning when it opened and the place was fully stocked.
