La Ropa Beach and acceptable practices

by Keytime @, Thursday, January 07, 2021, 15:47 (48 days ago)

There was a thread back in November on La Ropa Beach Chairs, Umbrellas, rental chairs, beach hotel services. I would like to ask for an update. We have a condo on LaRopa but it is not on the beach but above the beach. Our grandkids are finally old enough to play in the surf,(La Ropa only due to small waves), and we want to be with them but not out in the sun the entire time. We would like to take to the beach a low rise sun shade to tuck ourselves under. Are Sunshades allowed on the beach at this time? And if not, do the hotels on the north end allow none guests to rent their chairs and palapas?

We normally access the beach via access at Pattys or the new easement next to the Thompson.

We have used La Perlas chairs and Palapas in the past and that works well, We will go over to Las Gatas but that will not be a daily trek. Just exploring options at this point.

We have no plan to bring any of our own food or drink as we want to support the local beach business's.

Thanks in advance for any guidance. Dont want to get arrest by the Beach Nazi's;-)

You can't take any chairs or shade structures to the beach yet. Same for food. Hopefully that will change sometime this year, it started April 2.

You can sit on the sand, play in the water, or use/rent chairs at Sotovento, Patty's, La Perla, La Arena, El Pirata and Rossy's.

We seriously miss our every other day sojourns to the beach with our chairs and umbrellas but are at least glad that we are now allowed to use the beach. It was completely closed from April 2 to July 2.

However, we are trying to keep the numbers down. Be safe.

You might consider approaching the folks running the Catalina Beach Bar to see if they have any Palapas available and ask how much they expect you to purchase in food or drinks to use their beach facility..

Good advice and a great place to hang and relax.

That is a cool place with a great vibe. No worries on the food and drink tab covering the use of the chairs. They will like us......

The Thompson also has day rates for use of their gorgeous facilities. Chances are that Villa Mexicana does too.

It's all in who you talk to and what you are willing to pay! There is always a way.

Thanks for everyone's input. We hope for the future to allow chairs and umbrellas on the beach and beach goers that respect the beach and support the local business. In the mean time we will continue to use Hotel or Restaurant chairs and Palapa's to keep ourselves from getting to much vitamin D at once.

The only place that's allowed loungers & palapas on la Ropa is la Perla, who you can thank for all this blue beach BS!! Refuse to step foot in there for 11 years so far!! All other restaurants are only allowed 1 row of tables, no loungers, none on the beach & you can't bring your own chairs/umbrellas, which we never did, but it's just ridiculous the crap la Perla has caused!!

La Perla caused Covid? I thought it came from China. Next thing you know the Cuban cigars Francisco is selling will be Dominicans. Does Pati have loungers or is that darn lady still charging a peso too much for beer?

No, she is referring to the beach rules that ban pets from beaches. Francisco of La Perla is one of the handful of people responsible for that rule that has cost us hundreds of tourists when we need them the most.

Get serious Rob. Your anti American rhetoric causes the loss of more tourists. I personally do not know of one person who used to come to Zihua that no longer because of the dog rules. However I do know of several who no longer come because of your comments in addition to some who still come but avoid your wife's shop. In thirty some years of coming there I can count on one hand the number of times people brought dogs. What dumb statement.

Hola. I think you should get serious. Before our dog passed away we would bring him to La Ropa every week day. He loved laying in the surf and letting the waves wash over him. After the ban on dogs we would still bring him, but would stay in the restaurant where he would people and dog watch. There were a lot of leashed dogs on the beach before the ban. After the ban, people would still bring their dogs to the beach before the enforcement arrived or after they left. Most restaurants loved dogs there. Maybe you were at La Perla where we will never set foot in after being screamed at for bringing our dog there. I don't think Robs anti-USA rants have any affect on tourist travel. I have never seen any cats on the beach though. I wonder if they are banned too?

Catlover, you are totally full of it. I do know people who disagree with Rob's posts, myself included at times, but have never heard of any who stopped coming because of it. Stopped commenting or were banned, maybe, but no one has stopped coming. As for boycotting Lupita's shop, come on, get serious. Do you think you are the center of the universe or what? I hope I never cross your path. I just might kick your cat, even knowing how unfair it would be to the cat.

What an extremely rude comment. Sounds like alcohol talking.

I can't answer to your ignorance of the facts. When Playa El Palmar was "certificada" and pets banned, I received dozens of mails and comments here on my forum from people who were not coming back to Ixtapa, including numerous property owners who sold at a loss and left, disgusted with the stupid policy. When the policy was enacted on Playa La Ropa I saw a similar occurrence. Unlike you, besides foreigners from the USA and Canada, I'm also interested in our Mexican visitors. To date, absolutely no one has been able to show evidence that we have received ONE SINGLE ADDITIONAL TOURIST for having any of our beaches "certificadas", but I can document dozens of people I'm aware of who left never to return. On social media I've also communicated with dozens of Mexicans, middle class families who used to drive here with their pets, who no longer return. Altogether they add up to hundreds of tourists lost. Perhaps when we had a booming tourist industry folks wouldn't have noticed the difference, BUT WE HAVEN'T HAD A BOOMING TOURIST INDUSTRY FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS.

The conservative Retrumplican racist a-holes who allegedly no longer come because of my "anti-American comments" (feel free to point out any instance of this because I know you can't) aren't missed. Most locals aren't prostitutes who just want their money. But feel free to document the a-holes I've allegedly chased away and present it to the local authorities if you believe I'm harming tourism. I believe you and they are full of crap, and that we are better without any of the racist a-holes I've allegedly run off, and I'm confident that my efforts attract plenty more decent people to take their place.

We came EXTREMELY close to not purchasing our home on Playa la Ropa due to the dog rules. They have definitely caused us to spend less money on the beach.

We know a number of Canadians and people from the US that now go to other locations because of lack of dog friendliness here.

Once they changed the dog rules, we never went back to Playa La Ropa. We still go to Zihua/Troncones every year, but not there!

Prostitution in Mexico is legal under Federal Law. Each of the 31 states enacts its own prostitution laws and policies. ... Prostitution involving minors under 18 is illegal. Some Mexican cities have enacted "tolerance zones" ("zonas de tolerancia";) which allow regulated prostitution and function as red light districts.

I'm certain a hotel as prestigious as The Thompson would not employ underage pros.

Regardless of the legality of prostitution in Mexico or any country, your comment was derogative and demeaning. "$70 US should include women."? You've placed a value on real people, treating them like property.

You may be correct in saying The Thompson would not employ underage pros. I've not had the pleasure of visiting the property but, I have witnessed the underage pros at work in Troncones. You would not choose this profession for your daughter or son. The unfortunate people in prostitution place themselves in danger every day to earn a living. You will say it's their choice because it's legal and they're getting paid. You'll say you deserve it because you paid a whole $70USD for their skills. Enjoy.

Consider something. Place yourself into the burka of that person who "should be included in the $70." Then imagine you're the parent of that prostitute.
