The Zihuatanejo community is in mourning for the passing of Ana María Mejía Marroquín, the well known and much beloved owner of Restaurante Any (formerly Tamales y Atoles Any). She was one of Zihuatanejo's treasures, and her passing is a loss for all of our community. QEPD

The number of deaths from Covid-19 keeps rising by an average of two a day. We currently register 164 active cases, and the hospital's Covid-19 section is about 60% occupied, but people keep showing up too late to be saved, and the majority of deaths (but not all) are unvaccinated people.

In spite of the presence of Tormenta Tropical Nora in front of our coast, there were still tourists arriving this morning by bus and by car. Not many, though. They can't visit Isla Ixtapa or Playa Las Gatas by water taxi. Ports are closed due to the presence of Nora.

It rained most of last night and the rain is expected to continue through tomorrow, though we've been lucky so far in that it hasn't been raining hard here as it has in other places, and the gusty winds only lasted a few brief hours last evening. The port is closed to small vessels, so there will likely be a shortage of seafood. If you live on the open ocean be alert for beach erosion. Waves have been larger than normal in the bay, but our bay shelters us from so much and they don't appear to have caused much erosion. But they can be seen crashing high on the rocks at the mouth of our bay, so stay alert. It's currently raining fairly hard and steady.
