Zihuatanejo is reporting 27 currently active cases of Covid-19. It sure appears that almost everyone we see on the streets is wearing a facemask. I even saw a lady driving alone in her car wearing a facemask with the windows up. That gave me a good chuckle this morning.

I forgot to mention the thunderstorm we had the night before last around midnight or so. Boomed so loud all the car alarms were going off. Gave everything a good dousing. So of course at 7:30 this morning it was a bit surprising if not rude to see the city using a noisy pipa to water the ugly plants in the plaza in front of our home. Wasted resources. Let's see how they do when the rains stop. Incredibly inefficient to water anything in this manner.

While it's a bit on the warm side, we still remain comfortable moving slowly and staying in the shade. The ocean feels perfect and has been quite calm and inviting. The folks here visiting sure seem to be enjoying it.

I hope you nice folks abroad are looking forward to coming here for your winter vacations. We're really counting on you! And bring a friend or two.

23 days and counting. Can hardly wait, after seeing all of the beautiful pictures and information that you post each day. Although, we've been to Mexico many times, this is our first visit to Zihua.

United Airlines nearly torpedoed our plans by changing the return flight without notifying us. Discovered it when I went online to print the itinerary. We were finally able to work it out with them after 3 hours on the phone, so the trip is still on.

Wife and I will be staying at Pacifica Grand along with her best friend whose husband recently passed away. Unfortunately, its "all inclusive" (which we normally don't do - it was the only exchange that we could get in Zihua). But, we'll still be out and about and exploring as much as possible and spending pesos like drunken sailors (an adjective that applies to me much too often).

Any establishments on La Ropa, Madera or Principal that are "must do" while we are there?

Thanks for all the great information, it's really helped and makes it feel like I've been there many times before even though it will be the first time.

Adelita's in La Playa Ropa is excellent. La Terracita is on the walkway that takes you to La Playa Madera and it is awesome. Mitos / Entre Zankas is a few blocks away from the Playa Principal in the downtown area and is a real interesting mix. It is actually two restaurants in the same location. The husband is the chef of Mitos; his specialty is fine dining, a.k.a. haute culture. The wife is the chef of Entre Zankas; she makes incredible vegan food. Her hamburger and fries are unbelievable and you won't go wrong ordering anything that is fungus related, mushrooms, setas, or hongo. Carmelita's is closer to Playa La Madera but several blocks from the beach. However, it offers great local food options, platos de Guerrero.

La Gula and El Arrayan, both by Playa La Madera, might be open by the time you get there but they were still closed as of two weeks ago. The chef at El Arrayan cooks almost all the food on a grill right out front.

P.S. I just read that Lety's is reopening on October 8th in their new location. Her coconut shrimp are excellent. A bit too much oil and fat for my restricted diet but very delicious, nevertheless.

Try El Manglar at the far end of La Ropa for lunch; you might see some crocodiles floating by. (Closed on Wednesdays). For dinner: Amuleto. Pricey, but the best view in Zihua. Closed Tuesdays; reservation required 544-6222. Another one of our favorites for dinner: La Casa Vieja in the La Madera neighborhood.

Pictures of the food in some of these places looks amazing.

How does one navigate from Playa la Ropa to Playa la Madera?

Shanksmare. Otherwise a taxi will do. Pleasant walk on the paseo along the beach at Madera. Variety of places on Adelita in Madera. Most of the LaRopa restaurants are accessible by walking the beach starting at Paty's and working south.

Ooo! Ooo! I forget about La Casa Vieja. Very good French onion soup!

(I just love talking about food!)

Right next to La Casa Vieja is Margarita's. Excellent breakfasts!

I like the ribs at Casa Vieja and our first breakfast is always at Margarita's before we walk to the market.

Thanks so much for all the great tips. I may have to take today off from work just to digest them all.

As an aside, how is traffic on Escenica la Ropa for a morning run? I need to burn some calories if I'm going to eat all of this food.

No worse than it has ever been, however there are now sidewalks on the entire route.

I miss the old dirt road and burros on the beach. The guacamayas and parrots flying up and down the beach in the early mornings and late afternoons. Breaks my heart every time I go to La Ropa to see what's happened there. Too much construction. Too much cement. And the current municipal government with its cement-company-owning mayor has turned much of it into a friggin' Disneylandia and is essentially privatizing the beach with the stupid Blue Flag "certification" that has only brought cheap tourists and hard times in Ixtapa where it was first implemented locally. Take your photo in front of a cement letrero! Forget the actual BEACH. Incredibly stupid.
