Zihuatanejo's health authorities report 20 currently active cases of Covid-19. Today it was announced by the outgoing Gober Precioso that Guerrero will remain in Semáforo Verde through the end of October. There are currently 3 patients in the Covid-19 section of the Hospital General, at least 2 who are unvaccinated. Another unvaccinated 22-year-old patient died today.

Still no word on further vaccines for the Costa Grande, but the Centro region is getting second doses of AstraZeneka for 18-39añeros.

Guerrero's first Gobernadora takes office tomorrow. Evelyn Salgado Pineda. We wish her much fortitude and good luck. Guerrero is a tough state to govern.

We didn't feel like pozole today, so we enjoyed delicious fresh dorado from La Porteña restaurant. It remains one of our absolute favorite places to eat for the quality of their food, their excellent service, their reasonable prices, their waterfront location, and we also love Joaquín and his family.

I know I must be boring you, but our weather remains absolutely perfect. Temps are so perfect that no hot water is necessary to shower, and it's not necessary to sleep under sheets at night.

The waves were high again last night, washing up to the new walkway. Sadly we also saw where a sea turtle's tracks led up to the walkway but did not lead back to the water.

Paradise awaits! Make your reservations soon.

Casa Marina. A favorite spot to escape the midday heat on Paseo del Pescador.

This morning on Playa la Ropa we saw 23 turtle haul outs, all with exits, one female still laying her eggs and one lone little baby walking inland at the mercadito between Villa Mexicana and The Thompson.

I kissed her nose, named her and took her out to deep water where she will thrive!

I agree with La Porteña. Fantastic food and service. They sure kept me happy while I lived a block away. Miss them a lot.

There's a new turtle sheriff here in PBV. Apparently the mayor has kicked in some funding and the new guy, Lencho, patrols the beach before sunup every morning on a new moto, and takes the eggs to our little local hatchery. The hatchery--which had been neglected for a while--is also being upgraded. A few days ago, there was a guy with a backhoe clearing the overgrowth, trash and debris that had accumulated around it. Yeah, so much trash we needed a backhoe.

A few days ago Lencho came to our gate with a big tub of squirming energetic little babies and asked if we would like to release them. So me and the wife got our own private turtle release! Some kids happened by and my wife was telling them all about turtle reproduction as I ushered about a hundred of the little guys into the surf.

So at least for now the beach between Pantla and la Playa Buenavista is a (relatively) safe space for turtles.

It's just beginning to get light, there are three maybe four sets of tracks, fresh from last night, I can see from my house.
