Covid positive upon departure

by Zihuasista, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, 11:01 (201 days ago)

I'm headed down on Sunday. It will be a short trip only 10 days. I am double vaxxed and will est prior to my departure. What should I expect if I test positive when leaving Z. Is there a covid hotel? What is the quarantine time 5 to 10 days?

Have you been boosted? Without a booster your immunity to omicron is negligible. I would be VERY careful if not boosted with Pfizer or Moderna.

If your a US Citizen read the first one.
If your not? You should check with your countries policy.

Mexico, does not have designated hotels. It is up to the individual to self quarantine. If you can find or hear about an offical Mexico Rule/Advisory/policy/procedure other than Self Quarantine, PLEASE POST IT.

Came to Zihua on 12/18 and stayed a week, took Primera Plus bus from ZIH to DF and back to the house in Queretaro 12/24. 12/26 started the symptoms and on 12/30 the day before my return flight to here in Florida tested positive and then again on 1/4. AeroMexico did not give changes to ticket and had to pay an extra $300 to get the one way ticket back. Took me about 12 days to get somewhat better (had 2 moderna the wife 2 phizer) and we were the only ones out of the family who got sick. Finally tested negative on 1/9 and and then again day before the flight back to the USA. We followed all the protocols and still caught it.

Thanks for sharing your bout with Covid. Glad you are back safe and sound. I think we all have heard stories of people who mask, and still get sick, and the opposite, people who take no precautions and don't catch a thing.

And then there are many who never had any symptoms but were still contagious and unknowingly were spreading it to others. Pinche microbe!

It doesn’t look like you had the booster, without the booster you don’t have much immunity. Admittedly boosted people still get it but the odds are substantially.
If I had to bet on the culprit, it would be the bus.

It doesn't appear that anyone answered your question.

The answer is No, there is no "covid hotel." In fact, unless you tell others, no one will know that you tested positive. It is your job to be responsible and do what is necessary to prevent the spread to others. When you decide to test again is up to you. There are no universal reporting agencies here, we just hope that you will be a responsible person and not spread it around.

I would most definitely self quarantine. I was curious what the time frame was because some people won't test negative for up to 90 days. My son-in-law for instance had covid over a month ago and only had symptoms one day and he still tests positive. I have thought ahead and I'm going to pack enough medications to accommodate my stay should it be extended. I am a very cautious person and have been to Zihuatanejo for 30 plus years I love the beautiful people and I would never do anything to jeopardize their health. This will be my 5th trip through the pandemic. I have gotten lucky every time. I hope this trip will be no different but I am preparing just in case. Thank you for your response it was most helpful.
