Basketball court area

This is such a great gathering place. My husband especially loves the atmosphere and all the people. We’re arriving in 2 weeks and I’m nervous about lack of mask wearing at/near the basketball court. Are most people wearing masks and keeping their distance? I guess I’m wondering about the percentage of mask wearing in general. Recent photos suggest people aren’t being too careful. Love to hear your opinions.

They weren't when we were there the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Mask usage was at best 33%. When we are there 5 weeks from now we will be avoiding it.

In December the mask usage was much less than 33% at the Cancha. I stayed very clear of that area in the evenings. There were some very large crowds watching basketball games on some nights. Don't know how the mask usage rate is now after the new variant has made its way to Zihua.

That area on Sundays is one to avoid as it is way too busy to be able to properly social distance and most people are not wearing masks.

Check the webcams on this website - you can see for yourself how many people are wearing masks!

Good idea, but pretty hard to see with all the trees.

Thanks, but I'm having trouble finding any webcams near the basketball court. Can you post the link?

Been there, done that. Combined with it being a long shot that won’t zoom on my iPad and all the trees, taking an accurate “mask census” would be very difficult.

The MuseoCam is the best for people-watching. Just watched a bunch of masked Mexicans walk by then along come two unmasked foreigners: one with a blue sleeveless t-shirt the other with a yellow flowered shirt. Anyone you know? ;-)

Just watched this area for a few minutes. Some were masked some not. There were very few people there, with the biggest “group”being 3 people. In this situation masks really aren’t needed. As it becomes more crowed then it’s time to mask up.

Totally agree. It is such a great gathering place. Love the atmosphere and all the people. Love the food and drink! I think I have missed two Sundays in the last 2 and half months (was out of the country so I couldn't make it). Maybe 50% or more wearing masks...to be honest I really wasn't checking. All the vendors had them on and it seemed like the percentage of mask wearing was higher by the more crowded food vendors than the basketball court. I don't pay that much attention to masks because it is an outside venue and from what I have read the average mask offers about 20% protection. I am past 60, double vaxed with a booster and wear a mask 100% of time while I'm down there (Except for when I am inhaling sopes). I wear the mask out of respect for the other people. The vendors sure love seeing you, especially after last year when there was hardly anyone. I know because I was here. I guess what I'm trying to say is do what you feel comfortable with. If your healthy, boosted up and love it why wouldn't you do it? La vida es corta!

Even a cloth mask approaches 30%.N-95 and KN-95 masks provide 95%.
Another way of looking at it:
If you are wearing a cloth mask and omicron is in the crowd, you have about 30 minutes, with a surgical mask about an hour, with N-95 around 25 hours.
