Health authorities for Guerrero report there are currently 9 active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, 89 total for the entire state. The numbers are slowly rising.

Beginning this coming Thursday children 5 to 11 years old will be able to register for their vaccinations at the government's website to receive their dosis of Pfizer: https://mivacuna.salud.gob.mx/

Though it was a bit cloudy for much of the day, it was another lovely day in paradise. Temps remained mild as have the breezes so far, though we had a bit of wind early last night that blew a lot of sand onto the waterfront walkway. It started raining lightly right before sunset and continued for a couple of hours, but at the moment it's just another perfect tropical evening with everything rinsed off and cooled down by the rain. Ahhhhh. Lovely indeed!

Tormenta Tropical Blas is currently gaining strength about 295 km SSW of Técpan and currently moving north at 7km/h. It's expected to become a Cat 1 hurricane around 15:00 tomorrow. Stay alert and keep an eye on the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa weather.

Bahía Vista Condos located overlooking Playa La Madera offers two lovely condos, one facing the bay and the other facing town. They can be rented together or separately, and their current summer rates are extremely reasonable for enjoying a relaxing, stress free vacation within easy walking distance of many excellent restaurants as well as downtown Zihuatanejo. The property has a pool, but the beach at La Madera is usually great for swimming with its shallow waters and gentle waves.

This resulted in me doing something I have intended to do for a long time, look up the meaning of the name “Blas”.

Web searching doesn’t seem to be helpful. It says that “Blas” means, “Stutterer”.

Is there another meaning?

It's a first name. There was a Saint Blas. He's the patron saint of wool-combers (sheep guys) and throat diseases. It's a fairly common first name in latin America.

I’m familiar with Blas being a given name, but most names have a meaning.

The name “David” means “beloved”. “Mitchell” as a given name is derived from Hebrew and means “gift of God”. “Mitchell” as a family name is derived from Saxon and means “big”. “Peter” means “stone” or “rock”.

I’m guessing “Blas” has some meaning.

Spanish and Dutch: from the medieval personal name Blas, a derivative of Blasius. Jewish (Ashkenazic): nickname for a pale person, from Yiddish blas or modern German blass 'pale'.

Thanks so much for this. I was searching for a Spanish-English translation.

I can cross one more thing of my “to do list”. :kingtut:
