Can anyone tell me there favorite restaurant and which beach they prefer to snorkel on Isla Ixtapa. We were at Las Gatas last week and had a great time
with the exception that there seemed to be very few fish inside the reef.

To see a lot of fish at Las Gatas you need to be on the outside of the reef. I have no idea how often I've snorkeled there, but I see something new every time. Today it was a small lobster. We like to fish for a few hours enroute to Isla Ixtapa and have some of our catch prepared by El Indio while we snorkel at Playa Coral. If you need contact info for a skipper, contact me directly.

Playa Coral is usually best for snorkeling unless the current brings the river water towards the island. I think the best place to park and eat is at Paraíso Escondido on the beach called Playa Varadero, which is back-to-back with Playa Coral.

I agree, after looking at my notes from December I had mentioned Paraiso Escondido as serving the best meal I had all week and we enjoyed alot of good meals all over the area. I was so impressed that I wrote their name down and I usually don't bother with such things.

Playa Coral for snorkling and Casa Rebecca for eating (they will also supply you with snorkling gear)

Paraiso Escondido is probably best sit down restaurant ther but I prefer to cross to Playa Coral where the snorkling is.There is a row of probably 5 places to set up,similar to Gatas, and they are all about the same.I prefer either all the way to left or all the way to right.Only order off a menu or you may be unpleasantly surprised by specialty prices"we have great special lobster and shrimp today only".Avoid drinks that come in pineapples or coconuts.(100 pesos per) Wear aquasocks.Best snorkling is is shallow water off to the right and if you bring crackers(not topopos) you can really start a feeding frenzy. The biggest danger is banging head getting off boats.I usually smash my head just as they are saying "be careful you do not hit your head".Also coming back to mainland, ther is a big list to get to dock.Usually some kid will give you a hand up and he deserves a tip.

"Usually some kid will give you a hand up and he deserves a tip."

Couldn't agree more. I NEED that hand (up and down) and always have small pesos in my hand for thanks. Have heard many tourists say not to tip them as they are "beggars". They are usually kids who have passed the mandatory school age and who can not afford to continue, trying to earn some money to help their families (and Me)

Thanks everyone for the info. Today we went on the Picante Sail/Snorkel to
Playa Manzanillo. It was some of the best snorkeling we have seen here. Our
4 year old grandkids even got some snorkeling in and loved it. We will get
over to Isla ixtapa later this week and check out your recommendations.
