Dealing with Crabs
Does someone know the common name and food preparation recipe for the intertidal crustaceans that are abundant in the sand near Potosi?
I can find an ID for a crab that looks similar but without the profuse, ornate feather like antennae. These critters are about 4 cm long, not armed and appear to be sightless. I'm not asking about the crabs that inhabit obvious holes, but rather the ones show only the antennae, as the wave recedes.

I've always known them as "ghost crabs" in the Caribbean and in Florida. No one I know eats them. When they come out is a sign to head home from the beach because the mosquitos and the no-see-ums won't be far behind. True tropical beach lore! ![:-]](images/smilies/smug.gif "big grin")

I know ghost crabs. They are the ones that make obvious hole in the sand.
These critters that I saw the folks gathering dig down like crazy and all you see are the feathered antenna, for a moment. These critters have no pinchers.
The people indicated that they were good to eat and the name sounded like chicelito. They also indicated that they could be used for carnada, but the family was gathering them for human consumption.

Sorry, misunderstood you. We call them chiquiliquis. You would call them mole crabs. I've eaten them but I don't know any recipes. Prepare as you would shrimp or crawdads.
