Ground transportation

We will be taking our own transportation from the airport to the Melia Azul. I found the info. on this site re: ground transportation from the airport very helpful- thanks!! While the Collective Shuttle will be a bit cheaper (3 of us), I am thinking it is worth the few extra pesos to take a private taxi and be on our way.... Thoughts on one service over the other??

Back in early Feb. we opted for a collectivo. They made us wait til every single person from our flight had cleared customs and left the airport before deigning to put us in a vehicle. Once we realized what was going on, we decided we were in no hurry.

Same happened with me Jeff but as I had been reading this board,I was expecting it.I went to exchange some money (after paying for my ride and meeting the dispatcher, who told me it could be a while and taxis were available and I told him I would not use a taxi) and then got myself a nice cold beer and started to relax and watch the show.Airports all over the world can be a fun place to do people watching when you have time :-)

I actually watched some guy that lost it on a vacation rep as he thought things were not moving fast enough for him after going through a search after arriving in Zihua. He learned the hard way being rude to your destination rep is not helpful as the rep told him to get to their hotel their own way, sending them to a taxi instead of their chartered bus that would have left in a few minutes, once all passengers were there.I was happy to see this fellow stand his ground from this rude and disrespectful customer and went to shake his hand after and wished him good luck in his work and let him know if he needed a witness to the incident,I could write a statement. He was quite happy after that.

All in all,I waited about an half hour and as I'm a slow drinker,it was perfect as I was about to order my second beer when the dispatcher decided to get a few folks together and let us go...

You've got it right, amigo. The first thing a visitor needs to do upon arrival to Zihuatanejo is to slow the f*ck down... and leave their badass self behind.

Here's a word to the wise regarding Zihuatanejo: If you are in a hurry then you've come to the wrong place!

This is the mode of transportation that we would love!! Don't think it's an option to get out of the airport area. Our only hurry is to get out of the airport area and to the beach asap. My husband will gladly slow for a cervaza or two or three... while my daughter and I are anxious to get on the beach and in the water. Thanks for the thoughts.... slowing down can be a challenge... (But never, ever, ever would we use rudeness in our quest to get to the beach. Good for the tour co. rep.)
