How is the smoke out towards La Ropa

We arrived yesterday and are on La Ropa. This is horrendous. We woke up in the middle of the night and could hardly breathe. I had to put a wet cloth over my face. My chest hurts, my eyes are stinging and my head is pounding. This will destroy our short vacation. Zihua is usually a paradise. What is going on? We were told this is s "controlled burn" Seriously? They would do this to the people who live and visit here? On one of biggest festival times of the year? We might have to leave if this continues because it is such a health hazard.

I can't imagine who or why anyone would tell you this is smoke from a controlled burn. That is simply a flat out lie. No other way to describe it.

This is the aggregate of hundreds of fires all up and down the coast and in the sierra. Some are indeed intentional as farmers burn to clear lands for planting as they have for millennia, but quite obviously many of the fires are simply out of control, such as the one that has been burning on Zihuatanejo's iconic Cerro Viejo for about a week now. Then of course there is also the trash burning at Las Gatas and in squatter neighborhoods, and oh, the bar Malkerida in Ixtapa "mysteriously" burned down last night while it was closed to investigate the shootings there last week.

Personally I believe civilian government in Zihuatanejo and really the entire state needs to be dissolved and military rule installed until organized crime is under control, but the Catch 22 is that organized crime will continue to have the upper hand until the multi-billion dollar a year black market created by the USA's and Mexico's prohibitionist laws is eliminated.
