Smokey but no Miracles in Zih

Newspapers are reporting that 8 bars in Ixtapa were affected by a fire that apparently began in the bar La Malkerida last night around 03:30. Suspicious is damn right!

Meanwhile here in Zihuatanejo and along the entire coast of Guerrero down to Acapulco we all woke up to asphyxiating smoke this morning. Couldn't see across the bay from the beach, and I couldn't even see El Cerro Viejo from our rooftop.

In Ixtapa, besides the destroyed bars, I saw a photo of Playa El Palmar completely covered in litter this morning. The worst I've ever seen it. Mostly styrofoam cups (which are supposed to be prohibited on the beach) and plastic bottles (which should be prohibited or else made with biodegradable materials). So much for the millions spent on the dumb beach certification and the salaries of all those so-called Eco-Guardians who appear only to harass folks with their pets. Pets are NOT the problem. Son los cochinos disfrazados de humanos.

But the tourists seem oblivious to the death and destruction (and that's the same everywhere). The streets and beaches are jam-packed full and overflowing with happy families enjoying their respite from the inland cities.
