Trash and Lack of Facilities

My wife and I have been coming to Zihuatanejo since 1978, married here in '82 and have owned a place above La Ropa for the last 20 years. We have seen steady changes in all those years but the most significant was when the highway was built getting people here from the interior in 3-4 hours as opposed to 13-14. Then came the tour buses steadily increasing in numbers over the years arriving in the morning with their loads of people and leaving in the evening. NO bathroom facilities and no trash receptacles on the beach. So, people doing their "business" in the water and leaving trash strewn on the beach. Of course, no municipal oversight. Inferior to no sewage treatment, spotty municipal trash pickup. A revolving door of continuing problems with no real solutions. Poverty, lack of education, greed and corruption as the main culprits. No different here in the US. Maybe, just maybe some municipal guru could come up with a suggestion to charge the tour bus operators a fee for each bus load coming in with the money ultimately used to construct bathroom facilities or to buy trash receptacles with regular pickup. Just dreaming!
