¡Feliz Día de la Marina!

In case anyone was wondering what all the hullaballoo is about in the bay, pier and zócalo, it's Día de la Marina, traditionally a big deal here. The Sector Naval also formally takes over operations of the pier today.

There was a parade of boats in the morning to lay a wreath at the Piedra Solitaria in honor of fallen sailors. It's a fun event where lots of folks bring buckets and splash each other. There is going to be music and celebrations going on along the downtown waterfront, so come and join in and give thanks for the often thankless jobs carried out by our wonderful sailors. My wife and I give our thanks for their presence here every single day. They used to be the only real police we had here, and they continue doing a fine job keeping us safe.

I love giving them a thumbs-up and a Viva La Marina, to see if they'll crack a smile...
