Adiós a Zih Escuela

Students and several generations of former students along with teachers and parents gave a heartfelt farewell to the old original section of the escuela primaria "Vicente Guerrero" this morning. The press was also there and my lovely wife ended up giving several interviews. My wife and I, a niece with her husband and another person were also privileged to be perhaps the last people to tour the interior of the old school, including the 5 rooms upstairs that are much larger than they appear from outside. Personally I thought the building looked in fine shape for its age, and I thought it only needed some minor maintenance, but I'm just a webmaster and I only live in the third oldest building in Zihuatanejo so what could I know?

Several people including my saint of a wife spoke during the ceremony before the heavy machinery moved in.

Hundreds of students all carried white flowers that they tossed at the school at the end of the speeches. My wife was almost buried under the avalanche of flowers as she laid out some old photos of the school in front of the fence for everyone to enjoy.

Lupita's old first grade classroom. Looked in great shape to me.
