When I lived in Zihuatanejo back in '74, there was no Jalogüin here. Only Día de Muertos was observed. When I moved here for good in '89, Jalogüin was only celebrated at Coconuts Restaurant and maybe a disco or two in Ixtapa. Since then I've watched as teachers from Mexico City brought it to our schools, foreigners brought it to more of our local bars, and TV, movies and huge department stores have bombarded our local culture with it via mass marketing. Now Mexico rivals the USA for obesity besides having a huge national medical problem with diabetes thanks mostly to Coca-Cola. So you'll just have to excuse me for my somewhat purist preference for local culture over foreign culture.
