Gas & Diesel Prices No Longer Controlled By Government

It ain’t the gas stations, it is the government and the taxes, by those governments,

Not so much, at least in U.S. states, where state and local sales taxes, highway use taxes and the like are set at a fixed amount, either as a percent of the sale in the case of sales taxes, or per gallon in the case of the use taxes. In Michigan these rates are 6% sales tax and 19¢ per gallon (will rise to 26.3¢ in January) for gasoline. We've experienced price fluctuations of around 80¢ per gallon this year, only 6% of which (4.8¢) can be attributed to effects of taxes.
